Fujifilm’s Latest Digital Instax Camera Can Now Shoot Videos And Print Collage Photos

Fujifilm turned old school cameras into high tech with the Instax SQ 10, which allowed you to shoot photos on your Instax camera, which you can choose to print out immediately Instax-style or store them in a digital memory card. No more blurry or out of focus polaroids!

The next camera to join the hybrid instant camera line is the SQ20, a square instant-digital camera with added video recording capabilities. The SQ20 retains most of the functions from its predecessor, the SQ10, except that it has a smaller sensor and has a 4 x digital zoom. The Instax SQ20 comes in matte black, and also a brand new fancy beige colour.

In addition to the in-built colour filters, there are more modes to play around with in the SQ20 to create more grungy photos. The ‘Motion Mode’ is where your video recording capabilities come in – not to print out videos, but to select your favourite moment from the video. If you want more artsy-photos, you can select the ‘Motion Mode With Sequence Filter’ which adds a shadow from the previous frame. You can capture hair swings or objects with more movement.

Remember the Actionsampler toy camera which could capture 4-burst shots in a single photo? The ‘Time Shift Collage’ function will replicate just that, and you’ll get 4 consecutive shots in one little tiny square. Or maybe you want a little more disorder. The ‘Collage’ mode splits the frame up to nine frames, and you can choose from various division patterns. There’s also a random filter where you can those 35mm film frames to your picture for #hipstervibes, or add some grain with the ‘Retro’ mode.

Preview screen

The fun part and tough part about using an Instax is that you can’t really predict how the shot would turn out. How many times have your pictures come out too dark or overexposed? Using the preview screen, you can add vignetting or brighten your pictures, which is the most useful function if you asked us.
