September Sneaker Roundup: 90’s Nostalgia X Smart Tech

Time to gear up for the month of September! We are once again, back with a September Sneaker Series and the list features a mash of 80’s/90’s pop nostalgia and fresh silhouettes fused with smart technology. If you’re still not on the bandwagon, time to hop on!

ADIDAS: Falcon

Two icons were born in 1997: the Adidas Originals Falcon Dorf runner and Kylie Jenner. Now, they are joining forces for the rebirth of the Falcon.

In a grey, pink, black and blue colourway, the newly evolved Falcon is striking and eye-catching. Key features include a paneled construction in classic mesh and suede overlays, a molded heel unit, and reflective detailing.

Jenner states that the design is inspired by the 90s, an era where women weren’t afraid to break the rules and speak their truths. Now you can be in Jenner’s shoes, literally.

The Falcon ($150): Available at Adidas retail stores, select retailers, and online from 6 Sept.

PUMA X Roland: RS-0 Roland, RS-100 Roland

The sneaker features a vibrant orange suede with white reflective edges amidst the white-red leather combination with black nylon panels and yellow suede. The colours and detailing of this sneaker were actually taken and reimagined from the original Roland T-808 Drum Machine.
RS-0 Roland, $180

On the other hand, the RS-0 Roland, released last spring, features an upper black leather, micro perf vents, reflective midsole details and signature colours of the same TR-808 Drum Machine – red orange and yellow on the Formstrip.

The collection introduces a new series of windbreakers, jackets and anoraks. Everyone recognises Timberland for the OG classic boots. In this collection, they have the men’s Radford 6” lightweight waterproof boots inspired by the OG itself. CONVERSE x Dr. Woo Collection

I’m sure that we are all too familiar with this situation: many pairs of footwear in our shoe cabinet, but we tend to only wear that one particular pair. Did you know that wearing your shoes too many times will cause its condition to deteriorate?

Converse’s latest sneakers, however, are made specially for wear-and-tear. Dr. Woo, one of the most sought-after tattoo artists, has collaborated with Converse to bring us the Chuck 70 in a new style – an additional layer of canvas, which can be torn, cut or worn to reveal a print beneath.

These babies come in 4 designs, two of which include a black silhouette revealing Sunset Gold and a white silhouette revealing Green Absinthe. I guess we’re encouraging you to wear this pair for a long, long time!

Converse x Dr. Woo Collection ($159.90): Available at Converse Takashimaya, Lazada and Limited Edt Vault from 6 Sept.

ASICS: HyperGEL-SAI and HyperGEL-KAN

Earlier this year, the brand announced the launch of the Hypergel franchise; shoes with midsoles that offer 30% more bounce than standard EVA. This time, ASICS is back with the HyperGEL-SAI and HyperGEL-KAN, “genre-less” shoes that adapt to both a sporty or street setting.

We really love the specks on the side of the soles as it reminds us of The Land of The Rising Sun. No surprise there though, as the HyperGEL series was developed and tested at the Institute of Sports Science in Kobe, Japan.

HyperGEL-SAI ($159) & HyperGEL-KAN ($199): Now available at ASICS retail stores.

NIKE: Air Presto Mid x Acronym

Ever wanted to kick your shoes off after a long tiring day, but you can’t, because of the laces and complicated knots? With the Nike Air Presto Mid x Acronym, you certainly can.

The zippered collar allows for easy on-off functionality and we’re also loving the bold tech-inspired colours and graphics. This shoe is releasing in three colourways – and designer Errolson Hugh has inserted his brand’s signature “A” using a camouflage pattern.

The Nike Air Presto Mid x Acronym ($279): Available at Dover Street Market from 7 Sept and online from 20 Sept.

ADIDAS: Originals Yung 96

Are we still into the dad shoes trend? No? Well, this pair of shoes might make you change your mind.

Arriving in black and white colourways, these trainers feature a combi of textile upper and leather. It also comes with a large yet lightweight EVA midsole. Hit the streets with these chunky kicks!

The Adidas Originals Yung 96 ($170): Available online and on the JD Sports app.
