Everything We Know About Sony’s New Mini Playstation

There’s just something about those old school games that doesn’t seem to bored us with no matter how many times we play them. Sony has just announced that they are bringing back the original Playstation in a mini version – the Playstation®Classic. The mini console includes 20 classic games, and costs just $139.

Compared to the original PlayStation®, the PlayStation®Classic is 45% smaller, and it looks identical to the original. But you won’t be able to save your games on PS1 memory cards – the save files are stored on a virtual memory card. You’ll also get two cables, a HDMI-out for video and audio, and a micro-USB cable for power, but you have to get your own AC adaptor or just plug it into a USB port.

Design wise, the classic version emulates the original’s look and feel, coming with two similar controllers and even the buttons, although the “OPEN” button switches virtual disks instead. The little retro controller can be easily taken along with you even when you travel, so you won’t suffer from any gaming withdrawals.

The Playstation®Classic will come preloaded with 20 classic games, including Final Fantasy VII, Tekken 3, Wild Arms, Jumping Flash, and Ridge Racer Type 4. All the pre-loaded games will also be playable in their original format, as confirmed on the Playstation Blog. For now, Sony hasn’t said anything about playing additional games on the mini-console, so we’ve just got to hope that Sony has included a parallel port under.

As a final touch, the PlayStation®Classic will launch worldwide on 3 December 2018 – an iconic date that most hardcore PlayStation fans will be familiar with because its the anniversary of the first ever PlayStation release.

The PlayStation®Classic follows the release of a limited edition Marvel’s Spiderman PlayStation Pro that comes with the latest Spiderman content including a Spidey suit pack and themes, and is now available.

The PlayStation®Classic will be available in Singapore on 3 December 2018, at the suggested retail price of $139
