Try These Unique Coffee Recipes For Your CNY Gatherings

New year brings about reunions and it is always on the top of our list to ensure there is enough food and drinks in our home for our guests. What better way to enjoy your Lunar New Year snacks than with a delightful cup of home-brewed coffee? Nespresso sure makes it easy for us, and this year, they’re inspiring us more with creations concocted by key tastemakers from Singapore, Hong Kong and Taiwan!

Bella Koh (@catslavery), Jeff Law (@yewwooi), and Lulu Wei — you’ve probably heard of them, and this festive season, they have teamed up with Nespresso to create a special coffee concoction! Each creation is a reflection of their respective interpretation of the theme “Let Love Prosper”, and you too can recreate the recipe and prepare it for your loved ones this Chinese New year. 1. Mushroom Latte with Date Syrup and Gold Leaf by Bella Koh (Singapore)

Local entrepreneur and founder of Slowhouse, Bella Koh is blessed with a keen eye to craft delicious recipes, all by using organic and sustainable ingredients. You might be taken aback by the peculiar combination of mushroom with latte, however, Koh crafts all her recipe with careful deliberation and choice. You can be rest assured that this latte will be nothing like you have ever tasted!

Mushroom comes with a long list of health benefits — its antioxidant and anti-viral properties will boost your body’s immunity. Combined with dates and five spices often used in traditional Chinese New Year dishes, this recipe is not only highly nutritious, but a festive one too!

 

Mushroom Latte with Date Syrup and Gold Leaf

Here’s the recipe:

INGREDIENTS

1 Nespresso Arpeggio capsule
45ml Plant-based Milk
1 teaspoon Date Syrup or Date Sugar
1/2 teaspoon Chaga Mushroom Powder
1 sheet Gold Leaf
Dash of Five Spice Powder
Slice of shaved Dried Porcini or Shiitake mushroom as garnish
Lungo Cup
Aeroccino

METHOD

  1. Add date syrup, five spice powder and mushroom powder into glass and extract 1 Nespresso Arpeggio (40ml, Espresso size) on top
  2. Heat and froth milk using Aeroccino milk frother and pour to the top of your cup
  3. Garnish with gold leaf and dried mushroom

2. Red Velvet Coffee by Jeff Law (Hong Kong)

There is no better person to make a special coffee concoction than food enthusiast Jeff Law. Symbolising good fortune and happiness, this lucky cup of coffee uses beetroot for a Lunar New Year red! Not only does this drink look inviting, the ingredient beetroot also offers many health benefits. Top the drink off with mandarin zest to keep the CNY tradition!

 

Red Velvet Coffee

Here’s the recipe:

INGREDIENTS

1 Nespresso Arpeggio capsule
80ml Milk
5ml Sugar Syrup
5ml Chocolate
40ml Beetroot Juice
2ml Vanilla Extract
Whipped Cream
Mandarin Zest
Cappuccino Cup
Aeroccino

METHOD

  1. Place sugar syrup, melted chocolate, vanilla and beetroot juice in a cup
  2. Extract 1 Nespresso Arpeggio capsule (40ml, Espresso size) and milk foam from Aeroccino
  3. Garnish with whipped cream and mandarin zest 4. Stir well and enjoy!

3. Longan Coffee by Lulu Wei (Taiwan)

This tropical cup of coffee screams Lunar New Year — Lulu Wei manages to incorporate one of the most celebrated snack during this time of year into a cup of Nespresso coffee! On top of all the heaty snacks, consumption of this fruit isn’t just healthy for you; Longan (literal meaning of ‘dragon’s eye’)  also symbolises power and strength. Apart from dried longan, this bold drink also uses other exotic ingredients like ginger and black pepper, a feast for you to try.

 

Longan Coffee

Here’s the recipe:

INGREDIENTS

1 Nespresso Ristretto capsule
6 Dried Longan Flesh
5ml Cane Sugar Syrup
40ml Hot Water
10ml Milk
Minced Ginger
Grinded Black Pepper
Espresso Cup
Aeroccino

METHOD

  1. Take 6 dried longans and soak in 40ml of hot water for 5 minutes
  2. Pour 5ml of Cane Sugar Syrup into the Espresso Cup
  3. Extract 1 Nespresso Ristretto capsule (25ml, Ristretto size) into the Espresso Cup
  4. Add 30ml of longan water and mix evenly
  5. Add 10ml of hot milk froth on top
  6. Add a dash of black pepper powder and minced ginger for the topping
  7. Stir well and enjoy!
