Uniqlo? Yes, please! Marrying comfort, minimalism and functionality, it is hard to find critics of the Japanese retailer. On top of that, their collaborations are absolute hits, from eagerly anticipated KAWS x Sesame Street hoodies, quirky sweet Marimekko dresses, and a Shounen Jump collection that made manga fans drool.

This round, Uniqlo once again worked with UK-born designer Hana Tajima for their Spring/Summer 2019 collection, and, needless to say, we are obsessed. We are especially loving the nuance and inclusiveness of this LifeWear range.

The online page for the collection features the tagline, “Embracing the beauty of all women”, which reflects the philosophy behind the pieces. Ms Tajima is quoted saying “Embrace your individuality and who you are, know that these clothes are made for you in all your moods.” An earthy, natural palette incorporated into comfy, yet sleek silhouettes, the pieces are both extremely versatile and culturally sensitive.  For instance, we are loving this Square Print Stole, lightweight and with a multitude of uses, featuring floral motifs and contrasting blue border.

Mixing and matching is also in, making for easy styling. The cohesiveness of the collection means that long-sleeved blouses look elegant and neat under sleeveless dresses, and also pair seamlessly with printed stoles in a diversity of designs and colours. The lookbook is a feast for the eyes in soft natural tones, and a big YES to the inclusion of a model with a deeper skin tone.

How can Hana Tajima for Uniqlo SS19 not make us swoon? This collection lives up to the Uniqlo aesthetic of functional, simple yet thoughtful and sophisticated LifeWear, clothes that truly have your back — or are on your back — throughout the seasons of life.
