Take on the Bratz Challenge with A Dramatic Dolly Look

If you’re way into the beauty community, there’s no way you haven’t caught wind of the #BRATZCHALLENGE. The challenge involves using makeup to transform into your favourite Bratz doll, with some participants even going so far as to put on wigs and assemble closely matching outfits!

The Bratz slogan, “The girls with a passion for fashion” rang true— Bratz dolls were the embodiment of EXTRA! Needless to say, people are loving it, with over 60k posts in the #bratzchallenge instagram posts, and so are we! Although this definitely isn’t a casual everyday face, there are elements of the Bratz face that can be incorporated into more wearable makeup looks.

Lip Liner

Bratz dolls rocked overlined lips way before Kylie Jenner did, and the full lip is a distinctive feature of any Bratz doll. It’s definitely a popular look that isn’t too hard to achieve, and definitely gives your pout that extra pop. Here are three accessible and affordable options for you to get in line with!

1: ColourPop Obvi Lippie Pencil, US$5; 2: Etude House Soft Touch Auto Lip Liner, $4.90; 3: NYX Suede Matte Lip Liner, $11

Lip Gloss

Lip gloss was all the early 2000s rage, and now they’re back again, for good reason! Gloss is easily one of the most fun beauty products, coming in all sorts of scents and shades. A simple gloss can transform a lip look easily, adding dimension and giving the illusion of bigger lips. Here are some of our faves to get you started!

1: So Juicy Plumping Gloss in Princess Cut, US$7, Colourpop; 2: Vaseline Lip Therapy Rosy Mini, $4.90, Guardian; 3: FENTY BEAUTY Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer, $31, Sephora; 4: LUCAS PAPAW REMEDIES Lucas Papaw Ointment, $12.90, Watsons; 5: MAC COSMETICS Hint Of Colour Lip Oil, $38, Sephora; 6: TOO FACED Sweet Peach Creamy Oil Lip Gloss, $29, Sephora

False Eyelashes

Everything about Bratz dolls is go big or go home, even down to their huge doe eyes! Voluminous lashes are a must if you want to draw attention to your peepers. False eyelash naysayers tend to be concerned about lashes looking unnatural, but if you’re going to doll up, then doll up! No holding back here; these are our picks for the lushest lashes, whether you prefer a more natural look or full-blown drama!

1: ARDELL Fashion Lash in 109 Demi Black, $9; 2: DOLLY WINK Eyelash No. 30 Chiffon Nude, $24.90; 3: LAVIE LASH Demi Goddess Collection, $9

Mascara

Sometimes, more is more! So why not add additional dimension to your eye look with mascara? There are lots of mascaras out in the market, some specifically for functions like volumising or lengthening. Here, we’ve picked out some of our best all-rounders, for no-smudge, no-flake, all-day wear. Make those lashes flutter, and some hearts too!

1: BURBERRY BEAUTY Cat Lashes Mascara, $52; 2: TOO FACED Better Than Sex Mascara, $35; 3: BENEFIT COSMETICS Roller Lash Mascara, $44; 4: Tonymoly Delight Circle Lens Mascara, $4.21; 5: Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara In Blackest Black, $21.90; 6: Milk Makeup Ubame Mascara, US$24

Eyeliner

Fierce winged liner is undoubtedly a hallmark of the sharp, defined Bratz eye look. To recreate this look, we’ve opted for these liquid eyeliners for their sharpness and precision, and their inky, jet-black opacity.

1: STILA Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner, $32; 2: FENTY BEAUTY Flyliner Longwear Liquid Eyeliner, $30; 3: KAT VON D BEAUTY Tattoo Liner, $32

Contour

While Bratz dolls don’t have much visible contour, that’s because their faces come already snatched and jawlines sharpened. The rest of us who are only human will have to settle for our trusty palettes and/or sticks. These are our favourite products for getting the job done, without actually getting a job done.

1: NYX PROFESSIONAL MAKEUP Highlight And Contour Pro Palette, $42; 2: ANASTASIA BEVERLY HILLS The Original Contour Kit, $70; 3: FENTY BEAUTY Match Stix Matte Skinstick, $37
