Style Meets Sustainable in H&M Conscious Exclusive 2019

As climate change becomes an increasingly pressing issue, there has been a renewed interest in examining humanity’s relationship with the earth. Part of this research has been experimentation with new materials from natural sources and by-products of manufacturing.

For Spring 2019, the latest H&M Conscious Exclusive collection dives into the healing power of nature. They are introducing new sustainable materials this season: Piñatex®, a natural leather alternative made from cellulose fibres extracted from pineapple leaves, BLOOM™ Foam, a plant-based flexible foam using algae biomass, and Orange Fiber®, sustainable silk-like fabrics made from citrus juice by-products.

The collection highlights the fusion of glamour with innovation, and is inspired by the beauty of nature that surrounds us in everyday life. This is portrayed in the prints, as well as flowy, fluid silhouettes, the colour palette and in careful details. The design team interpreted minerals, trees and plants into jacquards and flowing printed fabrics, with a colour palette of lavender, sand, aqua blue, petrol blue, coral pink, and classic colours like black, gold and silver.

Printed Bow Slides, $109; Orange Fiber Crop Top, $219

Some standout pieces include a stunning statement jacket in a mix of shiny silver Piñatex® and colourful jacquard, as well as a dreamy corset top constructed with Orange Fiber®. The casual, fuss-free pool slide made from BLOOM™ Foam is also the perfect footwear match to give any look a laid-back feeling.
