Why Yoona and Q2Han Are Obsessed With This Product Right Now

At this point in time, we’re all pretty much familiar with the term K-Beauty and what Korean skincare has to offer in terms of their wide selection of products — from snail enzyme products, spot patches, sheet masks of sorts, and so on. Some are hits, and some are misses. I could go on and on about types available in the market but I’ll save the talk.

Now, you may have come across at least a few Korean celebrities in your life, assuming you’ve watched an episode of some new K-drama that your friend’s been raving about, or even videos of your favourite K-Pop idols performing their latest hits, but at times you might wonder, “How do they achieve such porcelain-like skin?”. No doubt it could be because of the makeup, but as someone who’s fond of Korean beauty, it’s clear that most of the Korean products I’ve seen tend to lean on the sheer end of things. So how do they achieve such radiant, dewy skin?

I sat down with K-Pop sensation Yoona from Girls Generation and YouTube fashion and beauty content creators, Q2Han recently for an interview to find out more about their skincare routine, travel beauty essentials and their secret to glowy skin.

ON ACHIEVING A FLAWLESS COMPLEXION

As personalities with busy schedules to juggle amidst the fame, it’s amazing how girls like Yoona and Q2Han are able to keep a flawless complexion while they hustle through with their growing careers. When asked what their travel beauty essentials are, Yoona mentions that she “doesn’t change her skincare routine a lot as she travels”. All for one reason: to reduce the risk of aggravating her skin.

“THAT 10-STEP KOREAN SKINCARE ROUTINE”

Surprisingly, Yoona caught us off guard when asked about her 10-step Korean skincare routine. “I don’t really follow the 10-step Korean skincare routine. I use products that have multi-purpose benefits so the number of products I use is getting lesser.” Goes to show that you should probably start clearing all your preconception of what Korean celebs do as part of their skincare regime. Sure, some may think “The more products I use” or “The more money I spend on skincare, the better my skin will be!” Well, you thought wrong, honey.

But what is it about Yoona and Q2Han have in common especially when it comes to travelling? Answer is: their love for sheet masks and serums!

ON THEIR TRAVEL ESSENTIALS

When you’re travelling overseas you tend to find that your skin feels a little more parched on your flight then it usually would on a daily basis. For a quick and effective fix, “lay on a hydrating sheet mask right before, after or even during your flight” Yoona says. But if you’re flying alone and you’re conscious about not freaking the person beside you without looking like a hot mess, then take this piece of advice from Q2Han: Wear a cloth mask.

Yes, you heard that right. You know the ones that you see many Korean celebs sport around the airport or while they’re on-the-go when it’s cold out (in Korea)? Basically, what it does is that it helps protect your face from drying out (plus, it’s a great cover-up especially if you’re not comfortable walking around bare-faced too).

THE HOLY GRAIL PRODUCT

The Innisfree Green Tea Seed Serum now sports a new look as part of the brand’s revamped brand identity that was announced last year. Retailing at $37. Available at all Innisfree stores.

As for serums, the number of options in the market is aplenty but the main question is: Which one of them really works? Sure, splurging on a few skincare essentials are important but sometimes even the most affordable options work just as good. An example? Enter Innisfree’s best-selling, lightweight formula, the Green Tea Seed Serum.

The innisfree Green Tea Seed Serum comes with a lightweight formula that smooths on effortlessly onto the skin to keep it smooth and supple with a healthy glow.

Made with double-squeezed green tea and green tea seed from Jeju island, the highly raved Green Tea Seed Serum has been a crowd favourite for many for its highly effective formula that keeps your skin hydrated and smooth ’round the clock. In the interview, Yoona also mentioned that this serum “was one that she couldn’t afford skipping on” — given that she had to pick one of the most important steps in her skincare routine. Well, the secret is out.

Impart a pump or two of this serum into your routine and you might just get a complexion that’s just as ethereal as Yoona’s. No lie — her skin in real life was f-l-a-w-l-e-s-s. I kid you not!

So there you have it. Although the Green Tea Seed Serum by Innisfree may not be a newcomer to the scene, it’s no doubt one of the many products that you should consider getting your hands on. It’s not too heavy, and neither is it too light — so it’s a great balance between the two to be used as a daily serum that gives your skin a boost of moisture that it truly needs.
