Fresh Off The Runway Shows

Drop everything you’re doing. This season’s shows are having a moment and we’re not just talking about the transformative pieces that were donned on the runway. In fact, we’re zooming into all things beauty. From Chanel’s highly anticipated Cruise Show to all things Dior, here’s a closer look on some of this what you’ve missed from some of this season’s iconic runways.

CHANEL CRUISE 2019/20

Chanel just rolled out their first Chanel Cruise Show last week ever since the passing of the legendary designer, Karl Lagerfeld, and all we can say is, it didn’t disappoint us one bit! Taking over the helm at Chanel is none other than Virginie Viard herself — the new creative director of the fashion house brand. Previously, she worked closely with the late Karl Lagerfeld so it comes as no surprise that she managed to pull through yet another of Chanel’s successful shows this season while maintaining the brand’s aesthetic that we’ve come to love and obsess about.

Held at the Grand Palais in Paris, the runway was reimagined into a Parisian railway station, with models strutting down the runway — sporting black cherry lips and a bronzy, contoured look. Yes, black lips are in. Hate it? Love it? Whatever the case is, we’re going for the latter instead.

To achieve the look, Lucia Pica focuses on elements of black to accentuate the features and outfits of the models as they strutted down the runway. Since most of the focus was on the lips, Lucia then follows with a polished canvas that’s luminous with the use of Chanel’s Les Beiges Eau De Teint — that gives light coverage and adds a touch of radiance to one’s complexion.

DIOR CRUISE 2020 SHOW

The Dior Cruise 2020 Show was one for the books as it brought one of the biggest and most extravagant shows to date. Maria Grazia Chiuri, Italian fashion designer and creative director at Dior, took it up a notch this year with Dior’s latest resort collection to produce the fashion house’s signature prints, alongside key pieces like turbans and headpieces to their looks. Held in the city of Marrakech, the collection revolved around the theme of which was “common ground”. In short, it pays homage to the celebration of different cultures coming together to find mutual understanding with one another. From vibrant colours, to eclectic prints that have been heavily influenced by the African traditional culture, the new collection demands all the attention it can get.

But that’s not all. When it comes to runways, fashion and beauty make the most quintessential of pairings. For the show, Belgian makeup artist (and also the creative and image director of Christian Dior makeup), Peter Philips, focused on giving the models a more natural, sun-kissed beauty look — of which stays put in warm weather, especially under the Marrakech sun.

Here, we’re zooming into Dior Backstage Face and Body Primer to add a touch of luminosity to the skin while holding a strong staying power, before using Dior’s coveted Backstage Face and Body Foundation. The look also encompasses a neutral toned eyeshadow (Dior Backstage Eye Palette 003 Amber Neutrals) for a subtle wash of colour, followed by Dior’s Lip Maximizer to maintain its natural palette.

CHRISTIAN DIOR SPRING 2019

Just when you thought we’ve had enough of Dior! (It’s honestly not a bad thing — we can’t stop obsessing over them either). This year, Maria Grazia Chiuri has gone full circle (or should we say circus) with the release of Christian Dior’s long-awaited spring collection for her haute couture show.

Drawing inspiration from traditional circus elements, Christian Dior’s runway looks incorporated some of Christian Dior’s latest additions to their beauty arsenal. The looks were a juxtaposition of textures which included fishnets and a muted palette to go along with a bold eye look.

Evidently, the eyes played a huge role in this area and it wouldn’t be complete without the incorporation of Christian Dior’s very own Pump ‘N’ Volume Mascara, Pump ‘N’ Brow’ Mascara and the Palette 3 Couleurs Tri(O)blique, that work harmoniously together to create these eye-conic looks off the runway.

MARC JACOBS FALL/WINTER 2019

Marc Jacobs Fall/Winter 2019 Show

It’s simple. It’s natural. It’s basically the definition of a no-makeup makeup look. This year, Marc Jacobs has brought forth one of the biggest trends in beauty right now — which consists of an ultra-natural look that’s been a staple on the runways this season.

For the Fall/Winter 2019 Show, Marc’s main focus was on achieving flawless, fresh and glowing skin with Marc Jacobs Beauty’s range of Accomplice Concealer & Touch Up Stick, as well as the Accomplice Instant Blurring Powder for that soft, blurry look.

To maintain a more natural look without drawing attention away from the eyes, Marc keeps it simple by accentuating the eye area with a sweep of black mascara on the lashes or a subtle fleek of Marc Jacobs Beauty’s Fineliner Ultra-Skinny Gel Eye Crayon along the lashline. As for the lips, Marc keeps it muted by dabbing on a natural-hued number with Marc Jacobs Beauty Lip Lock Moisture Balm.
