It’s safe to say that all of us have heard of the Street Fighter franchise, and most of us have probably played it, be it in the arcade, at home or even in internet cafes. Street Fighter characters and their outfits were pretty iconic — was there anyone who didn’t love (or want to be) Chun-Li?
That being said, here’s your chance to step up and dress like Chun-Li. Well, sort of. Onitsuka Tiger presents the Mexico 66 SD ($229), created in collaboration with the latest addition to the cult classic fighting game, Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition.
To kick things off, highly acclaimed Japanese manga artist and author Masakazu Katsura has designed an original Chun-Li visual for the collaboration. Making its worldwide debut on July 27th, the shoe comes in two combinations of blue and yellow, White x Glacier Gray and Acid Yellow x Soft Yellow. Both colourways are reminiscent of Chun-Li’s Street Fighter costumes. The upper faintly features a graphic print of the heroine’s dragon belt, while the heel flaps are adorned with both the Onitsuka Tiger and Street Fighter logos.
Each pair of shoes also comes with a product code card that allows users to change Chun-Li’s costume to original Onitsuka Tiger apparel in Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition, including the new Mexico 66 SD shoe. In addition to the shoes, the in-game apparel was also created in collaboration with the creators of the game.
For all you die-hard Chun-Li fans, here’s a special treat — in addition to Masakazu Katsura, ten more highly unique artists have designed original Chun-Li visuals, including Tokyo-based artist Cho Hikaru. These artists will be coming together in a travelling exhibition to showcase their works across three locations in Japan. Here are the exhibition details below.
