Amazon Prime Day is this Monday and it’s not something you want to miss

Every year there are crazy sale days — like Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Singles’ Day. Add one more to this list: Amazon Prime Day. This “sale day” only happens once a year, and while it’s been a tradition in the States, it only started in Singapore last year. Well, it must have been very successful (who doesn’t love a good sale), because it’s back for a second year and instead of a one-day sale, this 2019 edition will run for 48 hours…!

WHEN: 12am, Mon 15 July — 11.59pm, Tues 16 July 2019

HOW?
You have to be a Prime member. The subscription fee is $2.99 per month (very worth it! I’ll explain below), and if you’re not a member yet, there’s a 30-day free trial that you can join at www.amazon.sg.

And then download the Amazon Prime app — all shopping is done through the app.

WHY DO IT?
I’ve been a Prime member for the past two years and do almost all my household grocery shopping on Amazon Prime. Here’s an example of an order from last month:

And let me tell you what I know: the prices on Amazon Prime are very competitive. Every time I do a price comparison across Prime, Redmart and (previously) Honestbee, Prime is always either the cheapest, or matches the lowest price. See that Spam above? It’s $5.50 on Redmart (it’s $5.25 on Prime), and actually out of stock at the time of writing this.

I could go on. The Meiji milk on Prime is $2.90, while it’s $3.35 on Redmart (although there’s a promo now that if you buy two, you can save $0.95, making this $0.025 cheaper than Prime — IF you buy two bottles). Indomie on Redmart is $2, while Prime is $1.70. And I haven’t even gotten to the good part….

ALMOST INSTANT DELIVERY!
Amazon Prime delivers within the day! (Note: I discovered that I have to order before 6pm to make the latest delivery slot of 8-10pm.) And it’s free deliveries for orders over $40.

This is what happened when the kids wanted to go swimming on Hari Raya Puasa:

There was a week where we needed a new tripod for the office:

And all these purchases are from the local warehouse that Amazon set up in Jurong. But apart from the inventory available there, there’s a tab on the app for “International” products:

And this opens up everything that’s available on Amazon International — and that’s millions of items — to us, with free shipping with purchases above $60, and delivery takes 7 to 9 business days.

So what happens on AMAZON PRIME DAY?
Many, many things go on fabulous sale on Amazon Prime — both the Singapore and International stores. There will be more than one million deals in shopping and entertainment for Prime members. These include electronics (eg. headphones and speakers), home and kitchen appliances, toys, baby things and even everyday essentials. Brands new to the app include Sukin, OXO, KitchenAid, Bose, and Samsung. Other popular brands include Stojo, Maxi-Cosi, Belkin and Razer. Everything very practical, and brands we trust and are already familiar with.

To share our excitement with NYLON readers, we have $150 worth of Amazon Prime gift cards to give away to 3 lucky followers! Details are up on our Facebook page. Good luck!
