Editor’s Beauty Picks — July 2019

The beauty products to buy this month (from very affordable to rather pricey):

The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% Solution
$8 (30ml), available at lookfantastic.com.sg

This is such a simple product, but so effective and necessary in every beauty box. Just a small dot of this over emerging pimples will bring it down overnight. And a light coat of this over my nose dissolved and cleared all the blackheads in one day. Just a precaution though; use this only where you need it because it’s a powerful exfoliator. And do not use on open wounds. By the way, in case you haven’t heard, The Ordinary and the other Deciem brands are coming to Singapore later this year. You can read about it here.

Sigma Beauty SigMagic Scrub Brush Cleaner
$27, available at sephora.sg

Think Beauty Blender soap, but fused onto a soft bristle Sigma brush mat. And with suction cups at the base so this sits in the sink and doesn’t move.  Paste this in the sink, run some water to get the top wet, then just swirl your dirty makeup brush onto the surface and watch all the makeup grime come out and wash away.

I’m so glad this came into office. I spent the weekend cleaning my entire brush and sponge collection and now this is on my list of useful beauty inventions that make sense and value add to my life. (Although I may have overdone the cleaning because half the soap is gone. 😬)

Gloss Moderne Clean Luxury Haircare Collection
$196, available at sephora.sg

Whenever I find a good hair product, I cling onto it until the next better one comes along — that was the case with Olaplex for me. But I recently discovered Gloss Moderne, when the PR reached out to us from California. This is a brand that I wouldn’t normally purchase because the price alone would deter me; but I was curious about their brand philosophy (natural ingredients with no parabens, sulfates, and a minimalist approach to both design and beauty) — and in all transparency, these bottles were sent to us for review.

The product textures are silky, and it all smells like candy; but it’s the finish that I will buy the next bottle for — hair is soft. Really soft. I needed this after I tried dyeing my hair with the new Liese Creamy Bubble Color (sorry Liese, but the Bubble Color made my hair really rough and stiff! And the colour lasted less than a week…). If you’re not ready to invest in the full regime, there’s a 3-pack Discovery Set priced at $17, that if used sparingly, is enough to last you for a few days.
