Last August I flew to Tokyo to attend the global launch of Shiseido Makeup’s new collection — they called it “Big Bang” and it was an overhaul of all their makeup products, from the formulas to the packaging. It was during that trip that I discussed with the Shiseido team the possibility of writing a third beauty book (the first edition was written in 2015, and the second in 2017). So we planned for it and I got in touch with Lauren Tsai who is based in Tokyo to shoot her for the cover of this book. I met Lauren at the Shiseido building in Ginza, and photographed her just across the street against a boarded up construction wall. Shiseido’s Hair and Makeup Artist, Chizu Fukuike created a beautiful “no makeup” look on Lauren — using the new collection from Shiseido Makeup, of course — and it looked incredible.
