Every year, I make it a point to catch up with the Sasa team over drinks. They have been great supporters of my work with NYLON Magazine Singapore, and the NYLON team thinks that Sasa is an incredible beauty destination (they have more than 400 brands and 10,000 products!). As a store, Sasa has been in Singapore for 22 years, with their first outlet in Wisma Atria in 1997. As a team, the people at Sasa are really a joy to work with; as I write this, I discovered that they are at a team bonding session throwing axes at blocks of wood (the Marketing Manager sent me a photo!). 

At this year’s drinking session, I told them that I wanted to include something new and exciting from Sasa in my third beauty book (Editing Beauty III), and they suggested a brand that just launched in store in January 2019 — Art Deco. 

Art Deco is a German cosmetics label founded in 1985. The idea behind the brand is to offer high quality makeup at an affordable price, with everything designed and made in Germany. Many of the products have adopted a refillable system where you can pick and choose the different kinds of makeup and colours for a palette, customising it in any way you want. Other products look to solve what the brand calls “minor beauty problems”; such as having an eyeshadow base to make eye colours last longer, and a special topcoat for lips that seals in lip colour. 

For this tutorial, I’ve invited celebrity makeup artist, Peter Khor to test out a few makeup basics from the brand — all of which will make great additions to any standard beauty box.
