A First Look At The Extravagant Giambattista Valli x H&M Collection

When it comes to collaborations, no one does it better than H&M — well, as far as fast-fashion brands go, to say the least. From their highly anticipated H&M x Moschino drop earlier on this year, to their previous designer collab with British scarf designer, Richard Allan, the major retailer is back this time ’round with yet another surprise — and it’s with none other than the high fashion giant, Giambattista Valli.

When news about the collab first broke out earlier this year in May at the amfAR gala in Cannes, Giambattista Valli teased a lineup of his latest collection, worn by six muses including Bianca Brandolini, Chiara Ferragni, Chris Lee aka Li Yuchun, H.E.R., Kendall Jenner and Ross Lynch. Think — distinctive silhouettes that are unremittingly sharp, yet impassionate and frilly — living up to his haute couture status.

For uninitiated, Giambattista Valli is a world-renowned dressmaker that has made a name for himself in the fashion industry for dressing some of the most glamorous A-listers, which include Rihanna, Ariana Grande and Emma Stone. Previously he worked as a creative director at Emaunel Ungaro, as well as for luxury house brand, Fendi.

With this collection coming in full swing this November 7, you can expect a lineup of frothy gowns and exquisite cocktail dresses that you’ll be able to don for any upcoming party that you have in mind!

But that’s not all. In fact, this collaboration is pulling all the stops as Giambattista Valli introduces his first-ever men’s collection! (Peep Ross Lynch’s outfit at the amfAR soirée in Cannes.)

Breaking the stereotypes of how only women incorporate androgynous pieces in their outfits, the fashion maestro also picks a few things up from the women’s wardrobes which include animal and flower prints,  to sequins and transparencies — creating a style that’s timeless and sophisticated.

Here’s a closer look at the highly anticipated Giambattista Valli X H&M collaboration:

Overall, the Giambattista Valli x H&M collection is undoubtedly distinct, but surprisingly made to be more wearable than his usual vision of style. We’re talking about his iconic floral-motifs, Chantilly lace, and a cascade of ruffled tulle for a more sophisticated cocktail party look. This time ’round the designer also adds a little more grit to the glamour, accessorising the looks with charming embellishments and animal prints, sometimes in more casual silhouettes. This way, he manages to ground the influence of sculpted gowns for the ladies, while incorporating more bold colours and structure for the men — a refreshing take indeed.

Giambattista Valli x H&M collection will be launched worldwide on November 7, 2019 and is available exclusively at H&M Orchard Building, H&M ION Orchard, as well as on hm.com.
