Now is it just me or is everyone experiencing some form of hair loss? For someone in her 20s, it scares me to know that I’m losing more hair than I should be losing at such a young age. Am I washing my hair too frequently? Or am I using too many hairstyling products? I wasn’t too sure about what could save my hair until I came across OGX’s new Revitalize+ Black Soybean and Propolis Shampoo & Conditioner. And here’s my honest review and verdict!
But before I move on, here’s a back story of what was going on with my mane: I first started to notice my hair loss when I was 20. Occasionally, I found myself leaving the bathroom with a chunk full of hair clogging up the drain after a long shower. “Maybe I’m not using the right products for my hair?” and so I was pretty forthcoming when it came to trying any new shampoos or conditioners that could save my poor tresses.
No lie — I’ve probably gone through more bottles of hair products than anyone I’ve known, so you can be sure that I’d be hard-pressed when it comes to products that actually work for my hair.
WHAT CAUSES HAIR LOSS
Though I’m not an expert about all things haircare, I was well aware that there was a multitude of causes that contributed to my hair loss which included:
- High-stress levels
- A poor diet
- Lack of sleep
- Exposure to other environmental aggressors — i.e. pollution
All of which I had all the boxes checked. I know, I should probably start breaking my bad habits but that’s not the point.
But it doesn’t end there. As someone with very long, naturally wavy hair, taming my frizzy tresses and an oily scalp on a daily basis is a constant struggle that I’ve been longing to resolve. Not to mention, I’m also one who’s pretty fond of using my hairdryer every day, so you can imagine the kind of damage it’s been through these past few years. And what does it have to do with hair loss you might ask?
Research has it that blow-drying your hair has been associated with the oiliness of the scalp which may eventually lead to hair loss. No surprises here, but with this amount of heat exposure to your hair, using the right products to get rid of an oily scalp would be (and should be) your first priority in achieving long and luscious hair.

To save my troubled tresses from the depths of despair I tried the OGX Revitalize+ Black Soybean & Propolis Shampoo and Conditioner for the next 2 weeks.
So what’s in this shampoo that makes it a godsend for thinning hair? The hero ingredients are black soybeans — that blast hair with protein such as vitamins B and C, zinc and minerals — which provide nutrients for a healthy and luminous mane.
The OGX Revitalize+ Black Soybean & Propolis line is also the first-ever OGX product that’s formulated in Asia with Asian ingredients for Asian hair needs. It’s been said that black soybean is a traditional ingredient that prevents and alleviates hair loss from occurring. Basically, it helps provide nutrition to the roots by improving blood circulation in the scalp!
Another key ingredient to note (and also my favourite ingredient) — propolis, used by bees to protect hives. Not only does this natural humectant seal the moisture in your hair, it also helps to stimulate hair growth which is a definite plus especially if you’re one who’s looking to grow out your tresses!
MY EXPERIENCE
Speaking of ingredients, the smell of the Revitalize+ Black Soybean and Propolis line is definitely one that’s hard to resist. Although it didn’t really appeal to me at first whiff, the scent started to grow on me as I lathered it into my hair.
The smell of the shampoo wasn’t exactly one that was up my alley because 1) I usually prefer something that has a minty scent to it, and 2) it was a smell I wasn’t exactly accustomed to. But hold up, don’t get me wrong here. I don’t hate the smell, in fact, it was really pleasant and somewhat refreshing — think of it as a fruity and floral blend with a musky wood base.
In fact, my first experience with the line was at the Chez Vous salon where I had a refreshing hair wash and blow. You know, that exclusive salon tucked away from the bustle of the streets here in Orchard? The one with the Instagrammable setup — yes, that one — and boy, was I pampered like a princess.
I started with a relaxing head massage (that made me melt like butter), before indulging in a luxurious hair wash that felt like a dream. The sweet fragrant aroma filled the air as my hairstylist doused my hair in the Black Soybean & Propolis shampoo and conditioner.
The fragrance may be a little strong for some but it stayed on pretty well after the wash too — of which I was very impressed by because not many of the products that I’ve used had a staying power that could be compared.
VERDICT — DOES IT WORK?
The final result: luscious, gorgeous-looking locks. There’s definitely a stark difference when you put these two before-after pictures together — just look at how pathetic my mane was before that wash, eek.
That’s not all. In fact, after using the line for 2 weeks, I’ve started to notice the difference in my hair. Lesser hair fall, no tangles, more manageable and more voluminous too. The best part is — no drains were clogged in the process.
Honestly, I felt that the formula worked well for my hair — and most probably thanks to the black soybeans that’s worked well in alleviating my hair loss issues.
