adidas Takes Us To The Future With Their Latest Ultraboost 20

We’re certainly no stranger to the ’90s nostalgia trend that has powered the comeback of many vintage silhouettes that we’ve come to know over the years, in this case, more specifically, sneakers. The contentious dad shoe trend was big — with chunky trainers continuing from 2018, which sees shoes that were the size of toasters (no thanks to Balenciaga who took on layers of overlays thicker than your typical dough of bread). ‘Nuff said, we’re not here to resurrect the past, in fact, we’re focusing on the total opposite.

So what’s the latest trend to sweep you off your feet you might ask? Apart from the recent release of their Home of Classics collection earlier on this November, adidas has just dropped a new addition to their lineup with the adidas Ultraboost 20 — the latest and most advanced pair of running shoes to the Ultraboost family.

Together with the International Space Station (ISS) U.S. National Laboratory, adidas has launched a new era of innovation in space with their latest hype drop, featuring designs that take on a more futuristic outlook. Laying the foundation of sneakers from the future, you can expect footwear and technology that go beyond novelty — they not only look good, but also give you a revolutionary boost in performance.

Ahead, we’ve listed out some of the key features of the adidas Ultraboost 20 that’s sure to take you to greater heights.

SIGNATURE DESIGN

Drawing parallels from the construction of the Space Shuttle, the adidas Ultraboost 20 features elements that maximise a specific performance-driven function while retaining a futuristic look with reflective silver accents and its own space station-style badge on its tongues — the perfect embodiment of space-age style and tech in one.

adidas Own The Run Jacket ($85), 25/7 Tee Runner ($80), Saturday Long Tights ($90), and Ultraboost 20 ($260) in Dash Grey/Boost Blue Violet/Core Black

Styling it, on the other hand, can be a little daunting to some, considering its synthetic uppers are accented by a metallic violet hue on the Three Stripe graphic and heel clip. However, it does go without saying that these pair make the perfect addition to any casual sporty styled look you may have in mind — peep our ensemble that features adidas’ Saturday Long Tights, 25/7 Runner’s Tee and Own The Run Jacket.

PERFORMANCE

1. PRIMEKNIT WITH TAILORED FIBRE PLACEMENT (TFP) TECHNOLOGY

Made with Tailored Fiber Placement (TFP) technology, the adidas Ultraboost 20 comes with Primeknit upper features, which gives runners the control to calibrate their foot support to fully maximise and unleash the explosive energy of boost.

2. OPTIMISED BOOST

Similar to its predecessors, the new adidas Ultraboost 20 also sports the iconic Boost midsole — which gives responsiveness and optimum comfort for the wearer to allow them to propel forward with ease — every step of the way.

Extra support is also provided by the 3D Heel Frame – a stripped-back design which cradles the heel and locks it firmly in place – bringing the perfect mix of adaptability and support.

3. STRETCHWEB TECHNOLOGY

In terms of its outsole, the adidas Ultraboost 20 is built with Stretchweb technology; ensuring a more responsive feel that goes hand in hand with a comfortable fit.

These shoes by adidas signify exciting first steps in their partnership with the ISS U.S. National Lab. Looking ahead, we can even expect new dimensions of research and testing, microgravity conditions for instance — so who knows what kind of running shoe innovation we’ll see next!
