How those Super Bling Lipsticks for Christmas look like on the lips feat. Mei Yue

Here at the NYLON office, everyone knows it’s November when I start playing November Rain on repeat… and they know it’s December when Wham and Mariah Carey come out to play. But of course Christmas starts a lot earlier for us when all the festive press releases start flooding our inboxes; and this year, the glitter lipsticks really caught our attention — because loud. And bling. These following lipsticks look gorgeous in their packaging, and will make your eyes sparkle as you twist them up; but will they make your lips sparkle as well? We got our good friend, makeup artist Peter Khor to try these shades on model, Mei Yue. Here, have a look and make an informed decision on the one you want before you buy.

Gucci Rouge À Lèvres Lunaison in Goldie Red (Gucci’s classic red) and Fay Turquoise (blue with a glitter formula).

These two limited edition shades have an Art Deco-inspired pattern, and are housed in etched gold tubes with beautiful fuchsia and green colour-coated caps. The unusual blue shade may look intimidating in the tube, but is edgy and cool when worn. It comes off slightly sheer so give it a few layers to create the solid shade finish you see here.

$62 each, available at Takashimaya beauty hall.

Chantecaille Lip Cristal in Carnelian (a vibrant shimmering red)

This limited edition product is one of three lipstick shades available as part of Chantecaille’s Holiday makeup collection. The gold packaging is unremarkable, but the bullet has a pretty and sophisticated velvety sparkle that offers a slight metallic depth to the lip colour. The more subtle of the lot here, but also the most wearable.

$82 each, available in 3 shades at Takashimaya.
