#ChooseToGive Back to the Community with Carousell

If there is anything that COVID-19 has taught us, it is that every act of kindness can make a difference even during the toughest of times. While we may have witnessed how fear and panic manifested into an episode of selfish-hoarding and frenzied shopping, we had also seen gracious acts from the community like the Tech Ghee Super Mummies who made hand sanitisers for their whole residential estate, and community group StandUpFor.SG with their #braveheartsg initiative which encouraged locals to pen handwritten well-wishes for healthcare professionals in Singapore.

In order to continue the spread of positivity within our community, Carousell has launched a campaign of their own to inspire Singaporeans to be kind to one another. Aptly named #ChooseToGive, the online marketplace aims to help users connect with those in need by offering them a platform to list the basic necessities for free.

Here’s how you can be a part of this well-intended campaign.

The campaign is led by inspiring stories from Carousell users like Connie, who initially started giving away surgical masks for free on the platform due to the surplus she had. When she realised how many people she was able to reach out to from vulnerable communities, she decided to purchase more masks just to give them away cost-free.  To date, she has spent over $800 in purchasing masks but Connie believes even if she “won’t be able to help the whole of Singapore, at least she can contribute from a little to a few people”.

Feeling inspired? Here are some suggestions of items you can give from other Carousell users who have joined the movement.
