Apple Unveils a Better Performance Upgrade to Their New Versions of the MacBook Air and iPad Pro

If you’re in need of a device upgrade and cannot wait till Apple’s usual keynote in September, you’re in luck. Apple just announced their two new releases yesterday which sees a distinguishable update to their current MacBook Air and iPad Pro that you’ll love.

Here’s a closer look at the notable upgrades.

MacBook Air

Aside from its lightweight body, the MacBook Air gets an upgrade that will see the laptop perform faster using macOS Catalina with a 13-inch Retina display and twice the storage for an affordable price starting from $1,449.

Speedy Performance

Offering quad-core processors for the first time, the MacBook Air features the latest 10th-generation Intel Core processors of up to 1.2GHz quad-core Core i7 with Turbo Boost that speeds up to 3.8GHz. This means that you’ll get up to two times faster performance as compared to the previous generation. Alongside the Intel Iris Plus Graphics, the MacBook Air will deliver up to 80% faster graphics performance to make graphics-intensive activities hassle-free.

Privacy and Security

The MacBook Air comes built with the Apple T2 Security Chip, the tech giant’s own custom-designed second-generation silicon which provides on-the-fly data encryption for everything stored on the SSD, and checks that software loaded during the boot process has not been tampered with. The T2 also protects Touch ID information which ensures that information such as personal details, passwords and online purchases stay secure.

Probably a key highlight of the MacBook Air update is the expansion of storage space which is now 256GB – double of the 128GB from the previous generation. Apart from the bigger built-in storage space, Apple also offers up to 2TB SSD worth of storage space to store even more movies, photos and files.

PRO CAMERAS AND AUDIO

You can now take better photos with your iPad Pro which features a 12MP wide camera as well as a 10MP ultra-wide camera. The addition of the second camera allows you to zoom out two times to capture a much wider field of view, enabling different perspectives and multi-camera use. Combined with the five studio-quality microphones, you would be able to capture your videos with super clean audio and the quietest details — which is ideal for creative professionals.

Breakthrough LiDAR Scanner

For the uninitiated, LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) is used to determine distance by measuring how long it takes light to reach an object and reflect back. This advanced technology is already being incorporated by NASA for their next Mars landing mission and now you’ll get to experience it as part of the iPad Pro.

The custom-designed LiDAR Scanner uses direct time-of-flight to measure reflected light from up to 5 metres away, which works for both indoors and out. Operating at nanosecond speeds, the specially engineered LiDAR Scanner for the iPad Pro will work with the pro rear cameras, motion sensors and frameworks within the iPadOS to measure depth and deliver a world-class experience in augmented reality.
