If you’re in need of a device upgrade and cannot wait till Apple’s usual keynote in September, you’re in luck. Apple just announced their two new releases yesterday which sees a distinguishable update to their current MacBook Air and iPad Pro that you’ll love.
Here’s a closer look at the notable upgrades.
Aside from its lightweight body, the MacBook Air gets an upgrade that will see the laptop perform faster using macOS Catalina with a 13-inch Retina display and twice the storage for an affordable price starting from $1,449.
Offering quad-core processors for the first time, the MacBook Air features the latest 10th-generation Intel Core processors of up to 1.2GHz quad-core Core i7 with Turbo Boost that speeds up to 3.8GHz. This means that you’ll get up to two times faster performance as compared to the previous generation. Alongside the Intel Iris Plus Graphics, the MacBook Air will deliver up to 80% faster graphics performance to make graphics-intensive activities hassle-free.
Privacy and Security
The MacBook Air comes built with the Apple T2 Security Chip, the tech giant’s own custom-designed second-generation silicon which provides on-the-fly data encryption for everything stored on the SSD, and checks that software loaded during the boot process has not been tampered with. The T2 also protects Touch ID information which ensures that information such as personal details, passwords and online purchases stay secure.
Increased Storage Capacity
Probably a key highlight of the MacBook Air update is the expansion of storage space which is now 256GB – double of the 128GB from the previous generation. Apart from the bigger built-in storage space, Apple also offers up to 2TB SSD worth of storage space to store even more movies, photos and files.
All-New Magic Keyboard
First introduced on the 16-inch MacBook Pro, the new Magic Keyboard is a re-designed scissor mechanism that delivers 1mm of key travel for a more responsive, comfortable and quiet typing experience. The new inverted ‘T’ arrangement of the arrow keys also makes it easier for you to find them without having to look down while you’re working through lines of code, spreadsheets or during an intense game.
The all-new generation of MacBook Air is available starting from $1,449 and will be available for purchase soon. For more information, click here.
Said to be their most advanced iPad ever, the iPad Pro has been updated with the A12Z Bionic chip and a LiDAR scanner to deliver faster and more powerful performance than ever before.
Powerful Performance in a Handy Device
Unlike before, the iPad Pro will now come with the new A12Z Bionic chip, 8-core graphics processor, an enhanced thermal architecture and tuned performance controllers which offer a performance boost built for the most demanding tasks. The enhanced thermal design also means that the iPad Pro will be able to deliver longer sustained higher peak performance in tasks like 4K video editing, 3D design and augmented reality.
Plus, with the added Apple-designed Neural Engine, you won’t have to worry about the need for an upgrade as the engine enables on-device machine learning which gets it ready for the next generation of pro apps.
Stunning Liquid Retina Display
The edge-to-edge Liquid Retina display, which is built in both the 11-inch and 12.9-inch sizes, features P3 wide colour support that allows for you to view photos, videos, apps, and games in vivid, true-to-life detail. Equipped with the ProMotion technology, the iPad Pro automatically adjusts the display refresh rate of up to 120 Hz to ensure ultra-smooth scrolling and responsiveness. Together with True Tone, high brightness and an anti-reflective coating, the all-new iPad Pro will deliver an incredible viewing experience you can enjoy anytime, anywhere.
PRO CAMERAS AND AUDIO
You can now take better photos with your iPad Pro which features a 12MP wide camera as well as a 10MP ultra-wide camera. The addition of the second camera allows you to zoom out two times to capture a much wider field of view, enabling different perspectives and multi-camera use. Combined with the five studio-quality microphones, you would be able to capture your videos with super clean audio and the quietest details — which is ideal for creative professionals.
Breakthrough LiDAR Scanner
For the uninitiated, LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) is used to determine distance by measuring how long it takes light to reach an object and reflect back. This advanced technology is already being incorporated by NASA for their next Mars landing mission and now you’ll get to experience it as part of the iPad Pro.
The custom-designed LiDAR Scanner uses direct time-of-flight to measure reflected light from up to 5 metres away, which works for both indoors and out. Operating at nanosecond speeds, the specially engineered LiDAR Scanner for the iPad Pro will work with the pro rear cameras, motion sensors and frameworks within the iPadOS to measure depth and deliver a world-class experience in augmented reality.
Trackpad Support with iPad Pro Magic Keyboard
The iPadOS 13.4 (available as a free OS update on 24 March) will offer trackpad support for the first time to give you a more natural typing experience with added precision for tasks such as writing and selecting text, working with spreadsheets and pro workflows. Designed specifically to deliver the touch-first experience on an iPad, you’ll be able to see a cursor that will help navigate you through different functions on your iPad, just like a laptop.
The trackpad comes as part of the new Magic Keyboard that attaches magnetically to the iPad Pro for an adjustable viewing angle of up to 130 degrees. The Magic Keyboard will be available for purchase in May at $439 for the 11-inch iPad Pro and $519 for the 12.9-inch iPad Pro.
