Clé de Peau Beauté launches the 8th edition of its famous thousand-dollar cream.

Sometime last year, Clé de Peau Beauté revamped its entire lineup of skincare, and it was only a matter of time before its most famous product — La Crème got a new look and formula as well. Yesterday, this arrived in the NYLON office:

WHAT IS IT?
La Crème is Clé de Peau Beauté’s signature moisturising cream that was first introduced in 1982 and launches its 8th version this year.

The formula includes over 60 ingredients and some kind of advanced technology that boosts the skin’s night-time healing and regenerating mechanism. What’s new in this edition is a type of yeast discovered in Japan’s Akita Prefecture called CeraFerment Extract; this ingredient claims to enhance the skin’s ability to regenerate and firm up. The cream also includes something that the brand calls “Skin-Empowering Illuminator”, which is an ingredient for awakening “Skin Intelligence” — basically getting the skin to defend and repair itself.

THE EXPERIENCE
The texture is a smooth custard cream that’s soft like the silkiest butter. The mini spoon glides along the cream’s surface, scooping up a small amount of product — and only a tiny amount is needed for the entire face. It also does feel like silk on the skin, sinking in and creating a dewy finish that is only slightly tacky, but not oily or sticky. Under makeup, it sits well without any pilling or flaking — as one would expect a quality cream to behave.

PERSONAL RESULTS
Within the first few minutes of applying this cream, my skin felt really comfortable, soothed and hydrated, and there was a slight sheen as well. After the first use at night, I woke up to skin that looked fresher than usual and with slightly smaller pores. And while applying my base makeup, I noticed that my skin had a natural radiance to it, akin to a healthy glow.

VERDICT
There’s no doubt that this is a truly spectacular cream, which gave overnight results and a remarkably luxurious experience; but it’s also very, very expensive and unless you’re the 1%, it’s unlikely you’ll put down close to $900 for a small 30ml jar. If you can afford it and you do, lucky you and your skin.

Clé de Peau Beauté La Crème retails at $875 for 30ml and $1,200 for 50ml. Available at Clé de Peau Beauté boutiques and counters islandwide.
