Introducing the Huawei P40 Series, the New Flagship Smartphone that Supports 50x SuperSensing Zoom

If there is anything that Huawei knows best, it is what users like to do with their phones. Even with the success of their P30 series, Huawei constantly seeks to update and improve, which has now led them to the creation of their all-new range of flagship smartphones — the Huawei P40 Series.

Aimed at expanding the range of camera possibilities and capture super high-quality moments that can rival those taken with a DSLR camera, the Huawei P40 Series houses the largest CMOS sensor yet and is equipped with powerful Leica camera systems and a high-performance 5G.

Powered by Kirin 990 5G, the full Huawei P40 series is now ready to deliver integrated 5G connectivity with the most comprehensive 5G band support, robust AI performance and power efficiency in a form factor that is smaller than any of its predecessors. All models will also support the 160MHz Wi-Fi 6 Plus technology which allows data to be transferred at up to 2.4Gbps.

Each phone in the Huawei P40 series will come equipped with the EMUI 10.1 operating system and its host of new features for seamless user experience. These include the Huawei MeeTime for high quality 1080p Full HD video call experience even when the user may be in a dimly lit room, and the Huawei Share, which integrates a range of cross-device functionality that allows Huawei users to easily transfer files, establish connection and share screens.

Although Google apps may not be functional on Huawei phones, the Huawei P40 series still operates as an Android phone which means that it is still able to download and access Android-compatible apps such as banking apps, rideshare apps and social media apps from the Huawei App Store.

The highlight of the Huawei P40 Series is the advanced Ultra Vision Leica camera system, which is available in triple-camera, quad-camera, and penta-camera configurations. Here’s a closer look at the different camera systems found on the P40 and P40 Pro.

The Huawei P40 Pro will also feature, for the first time ever, an RYYB colour filter array, which will help to boost light intake and improve the quality of zoomed shots. The P40 Pro will also have the ability to bring faraway subjects up-close with the 5x optical zoom, 10x hybrid zoom, and 50x digital zoom.

Rounding up the range is the Huawei P40 Pro+, which will feature the penta-camera configuration that includes the SuperZoom Array, to support 10x true optical zoom and 100x digital zoom. This is achieved with a new periscope design which reflects light five times and extends the light path by 178%. The optically stabilised Ultra-Vision Main Camera and SuperZoom Array works in tandem with AI to realise Triple OIS+AIS for vastly improved photo and video stabilisation.

ADDITIONAL CAMERA FEATURES

The Huawei Ultra Vision Sensor that is included in the full Huawei P40 Series revolutionises sensor technology at a pixel level. Measuring at 1/1.28 inches diagonally, the sensor supports pixel binning to achieve a pixel size of 2.44μm and Octa PD AutoFocus for high-speed focus at any time of the day, including shots after dark. This is made possible with the Huawei XD Fusion Engine which leverages the AI to boost detail reproduction across every possible lighting condition.

The Selfie Cameras on both the Huawei P40 and P40 Pro offers autofocus and bokeh simulation to deliver the same portrait effects that are signature to Huawei devices.

PHOTO EDITING WITH A TAP

The all-new P40 Series introduces the Huawei Golden Snap — a new Gallery feature that uses AI to pick the best frames captured from a moving picture to keep. Editing photos will also no longer be difficult with the Huawei-developed AI Remove Passerby and AI Remove Reflection which can help remove unwanted subjects and glare from the frame with just a tap.

POWERFUL POCKET-SIZED VIDEO CAMERA

All phones in the Huawei P40 Series supports real-time bokeh simulation for videos. Mimicking the effects of a wide aperture lens, this feature allows for the addition of progressive bokeh to help highlight the main subject of the footage. The telephoto camera can also capture high-resolution zoom footage as well as 4K time-lapse videos. Understanding the importance of capturing videos with proper audio accompaniment, Huawei has developed their new Audio Zoom feature which allows users to simultaneously zoom in on an audio source and amplify its sound during recording.

DESIGN

Inspired by the art of motion in nature, the Huawei P40 Pro and Huawei P40 Pro+ are equipped with the Huawei Quad-curve Overflow Display which takes on a demi bullnose edge on all four sides, creating a display design reminiscent of flowing water. The super-narrow bezels and streamlined round corners ensures a near borderless look that provides an immersive viewing experience with an ergonomic hold. The P40 series also comes with the in-screen fingerprint scanner which will now offer 30% faster biometric authentication than its predecessor.

The P40 and P40 Pro will be available in five colours — the glossy Ice White, Deep Sea Blue, and Black, as well as the matte glass Blush Gold and Silver Frost. The P40 Pro+ will feature a nano-tech ceramic back panel, available in White Ceramic and Black Ceramic, that is kilned and polished to ensure durability in a timeless style.

Eager Singaporeans will be happy to note that the Huawei P40 Series will be launched here first before China and the rest of the world. Here’s a closer look at the specs for you to decide which P40 suits you best.
