If you know anything about Louis Vuitton, then you’ll probably be familiar with its signature textiles — the Monogram Canvas and Epi Leather. This coming Friday however, the luxury label will be introducing a completely new addition to its storied classics — the LV Pont 9 — a bag made in smooth calfskin.
Designed by Nicholas Ghesquière, and so named after Paris’ Pont Neuf — the celebrated bridge that sits opposite Louis Vuitton’s headquarters, it wouldn’t be a stretch to imagine that the LV Pont 9’s timeless box bag silhouette is inspired by the elegance embodied by Parisians who cross it daily.
The satiny texture of smooth calfskin used on the LV Pont 9 exudes the abstract qualities that define vintage luxe, while it’s notably minimalistic style highlights the label’s archival Louis Vuitton Circle hardware prominently displayed on its front flap.
You’ll also find the same hardware on its shoulder strap where it adds a tasteful aesthetic touch, and functions as an adjustable clasp for the strap’s length.
Sensibly-sized in dimensions that measure 23cm by 15cm by 8cm, the bag opens via a magnetic Monogram Flower closure to unveil a generous interior that’s more than enough to fit your everyday essentials. Furthermore, there are extra pockets and a zippered compartment within to keep everything organised.
Worth mentioning too is the easily unnoticed detailing that goes into the LV Pont 9, which includes the reinforced stitching and additional strips of leather attached to its sides — preventing it from being misshapen from extensive use. As well as its primed buttery smooth leather that offers durability when it encounters unforeseeable accidents. These careful refinements to an otherwise simple-looking bag is testament to Louis Vuitton’s commitment to maintaining its legacy as a legendary leather house.
Available in 5 colours, the LV Pont 9 comes in a spectrum of polarising shades — from the most quintessence of all things classic Noir and sophisticated Crème to more striking hues of Summer Gold, Rose Dahlia, and Bleu Orage. Priced at $5,350, consider this bag one that’s worth investing in. If anything, we’d bet on it becoming the standout amongst the luxury label’s extensive list of must-have classics.
