San Diego Comic-Con to Stream an At-Home Version of the Event This Summer

Like most nerds around the world, the San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) has always been an annual event that I’ve looked forward to. However, due to COVID-19, the huge comic book convention, scheduled to run from 23 to 26 July was cancelled for the first time in 50 years — much to the dismay of excited fans who had already pre-booked their trip.

For the uninitiated, SDCC is one of the world’s biggest highly-anticipated comic book conventions that has gone from primarily catering to the comic book collecting crowd to becoming an announcement churning machine for the entertainment industry where fans would annually look forward to major announcements about upcoming superhero films from Marvel Studios and DC entertainment. If you want to see the extent of just how large-scale SDCC can get, take a look at the iconic 2013 SDCC Hall H appearance Loki made for the announcement of Thor: The Dark World.

While most were left to deal with the loss of the comic fest and depressingly countdown to the next SDCC scheduled for 22 to 25 July 2021, the organisers decided to surprise with an at-home version of the event. Announced recently, the San Diego Comic-Con is set to stream Comic-Con @ Home for fans to enjoy sans the crowd and long lines. There’s no official date for the event just yet though it is speculated that it will be held around the original date of SDCC this year.

Details about the upcoming event are still kept hush-hush and even though it may not be as exciting as the surprise reveals at the panels, it is still something to keep our nerdy hearts happy during this global pandemic.
