Stan Smith, New Balance & More Sporty Slip-Ons

Since the Circuit Breaker started, I’ve been using slip-ons on my trips outside the house — I don’t think I’ve worn sneakers at any point in the past couple months. We’re approaching the middle of the year, and it has been getting a little warmer. When it’s too hot, the last thing you feel like doing is putting in effort to put on a pair of shoes, so if they aren’t already, slides are about to become a permanent part of your wardrobe.

adidas Stan Smith Slip-On Shoes

L-R: Tribe Yellow, Cloud White

You’re probably familiar with the classic Stan Smith silhouette — now there’s a mule version, and it actually looks pretty good. I have to admit, when I first saw these slip-ons, I felt a bit uneasy — they reminded me of all the times my parents chided me for flattening the backs of my sneakers. It’s basically the classic silhouette, laces and all, but with an open heel.

Available at adidas.com.sg ($110).

Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66 Sabot

Top: White, Natural Bottom: Cream/Mako Blue

Retaining its signature shape and logo, the Mexico 66 has been transformed into a breathable Sabot style. The sturdy mesh upper is perfect for summer outings, and the ORTHOLITE™ sockliners provide a comfy foundation for any distance, whether it’s a quick trip to the supermarket or a long walk on the beach.

Available at onitsukatiger.com ($179).

Vans

Classic Slip-On Mule
Cadmium Yellow/Marshmallow

Who knew the Slip-On could be even easier to wear? This open-back shoe provides all the comfort of the Vans Slip-On but with an even more convenient wear. We can see this chequered classic being a summer staple.

Old Skool Mule
Top: Classic White/True White, Black/True White Bottom: Racing Red/True White

It’s the Old Skool skate shoe we all know and love, but with the casual styling of a mule. This version features the same suede and canvas uppers the traditional sneaker has, along with the signature rubber waffle outsoles and toecaps. There is a bit more of an edge on the back of the shoe, compared to the Classic alternative, which may provide a little more support.

The Classic Slip-On Mule ($69) and Old Skool Mule ($89) are available at vans.com.sg.

New Balance Unisex Tropics 330 Sandals

Top: Bali Blue, Moonbeam Bottom: Stone Blue

With a REVlite cushioned midsole, these comfortable sandals are the perfect fit for summer activities. A secure, customisable fit is provided with the adjustable hook and loop closure, and the durable rubber outsole ensures a good grip, even on wet surfaces. Go with the Bali Blue colourway for a more vibrant look, or the more low-key Stone Blue or Moonbeam versions.

Available at newbalance.com.sg ($89).

Nike Owaysis

The breathable airy synthetic upper feels soft on the foot, and dual-density foam provides added comfort and support for use with all activities, big or small. An adjustable heel strap also provides a more personalised fit, so they’ll stay on all day.
