The Sephora Cult Favourites It’s About Time You Try

Add some excitement to your #stayhome life by trying something new. These following 8 products have strong cult followings, and for good reason;  they work as they should. Read on.

1. OLAPLEX No.4 Bond Maintenance Shampoo, 250ml ($46)

When OLAPLEX entered the hair salon scene in 2014, it was called many things: game-changer, holy grail for in-the-know salon-goers, and hair care magic. The pricey (but effective) in-salon treatment that repairs the inside of hair (yes, the inside), has evolved into a take-home hair treatment (that’s No.3), a shampoo and conditioner (No.4 and 5), and more recently, post care products — a bond smoother (No.6) and bonding oil (No.7).

While all the products from No.3 to 7 are priced exactly the same, I recommend starting with the shampoo. Clean your hair right. This product cleans, repairs, protects and strengthens hair, improving its health with each use. I’ve tried it myself and found less hair dropping, and less frizziness.

2. FOREO Luna Mini 3 ($235

Who hasn’t heard of the famous FOREO cleansing device? The question is: have you tried it? If not, get the Luna Mini 3. It’s a good option with the most settings; it produces 8,000 T-Sonic pulsations per minute at 12 intensities, and has a 30-second “glow boost mode” for a quick, yet effective cleanse. Everyone I know who has washed their face using a FOREO device loves it. It’s one of those things that you need to try for yourself to understand the hype.

3. DRUNK ELEPHANT C-Firma™ Day Serum, 30ml ($114

Vitamin C serums have grown in popularity in recent years, with so many options to choose from; but this one from Drunk Elephant really stands out. Key ingredients include 15% l-ascorbic acid, 0.5% ferulic acid and 1% vitamin E — all top-of-the-line ingredients for an appropriate cost that isn’t too much. What this serum does is it firms and brightens skin over time, and legions of fans can’t be wrong. You’ll find heaps of good reviews for this product online.

4. JO MALONE LONDON English Pear & Freesia Cologne, 100ml ($215

Why is Jo Malone so popular? Especially considering it’s not exactly cheap? I would describe them as “non offensive”. Some perfumes are too sweet, too floral, or too something else… and they hit straight up the nose and can actually bother the people around you. Jo Malone fragrances, on the other hand, hit all the right notes by being light, simple and natural-smelling. It doesn’t hurt that the bottles are very pretty too.

I recommend this one, which is described as “the sensuous freshness of just-ripe pears wrapped in a bouquet of white freesias and mellowed by amber, patchouli and woods.“

5. LAURA MERCIER Translucent Loose Setting Powder ($70)

This is possibly the best loose powder in the world. It creates an incredible soft focus effect that makes it so addictive to use. It also doesn’t settle into fine lines, dry out skin, or give any “flashback” in photos that many base makeup tend to do. Laura Mercier has pretty much perfected the setting powder.

6. HOURGLASS Ambient Lighting Face Palette ($106)

There’s just something about this particular face palette that has today’s generation of beauty junkies going crazy over. I admit, it’s very pretty — from the packaging to the powder shades, especially the marbled one. The cult following really is due to the smoothness of the product; it glides effortlessly and seamlessly over skin, and blends like a dream. It’s a bit of an investment, but once you try it, you’ll understand that this quality comes at a price.

7. COCO & EVE Like A Virgin Super Nourishing Coconut & Fig Hair Masque And Tangle Tamer Set, 212ml ($65)

Have you seen the Coco & Eve ads all over Facebook or Instagram? I’m clearly their target market because they got pushed to me so much, I went to buy and try the product. And you know what… this stuff actually works! It made my hair smoother, softer, less frizzy and definitely more manageable; and the more I use it, the better my hair becomes. What a way to get a consumer hooked.

8. TOM FORD BEAUTY Rose Prick Eau De Parfum, 50ml ($473)

I’m sorry to say that as I write this, this product is sold out on Sephora.sg. And if you think about it, that’s pretty incredible considering its ridiculous price. So what are you paying for? I mean apart from the Tom Ford brand name, it is a truly beautiful fragrance, in an equally truly beautiful bottle. I even like its name (but not as much as the one called “Fucking Fabulous”). Rose Prick is described as “a wild bouquet of beautiful breeds of rose — Rose de Mai, Turkish and Bulgarian.”
