Or perhaps it’s all just an exercise of the famous saying that fashion is a reflection of our times. Things, as they are in the world-at-large, can be summed up as being fairly apocalyptic. And while fashion is an industry that trades on optimism, fantasy, and the calculated ability to dry your wallet, is naturally averse to take inspiration from unpleasantness, that doesn’t mean it can’t respond inversely to all that’s going on with satire and humour.

One of the best examples of this is the now-iconic Balenciaga rendition of the $0.90 Ikea Frakta bag, which despite the many laughs and memes, are also sold out across stores. Why is that?
