Taobao’s annual 6.18 mid-year sale is back, and for the first time ever, they’re featuring local merchants and food products! For those of you who are unfamiliar with the Chinese shopping site, it’s the world’s biggest e-commerce site, offering a variety of items, including beauty products, food and beverages and household essentials.
From now to 20th June, enjoy great deals from local merchants such as Kunhai, which specialises in convenient, pre-packaged ingredients including Mala Crayfish (¥86 U.P. ¥188) and Pan-Fried Xiao Long Bao (¥198 U.P. ¥208), Kinohimitsu, which offers various supplements like their best-selling Collagen Diamond 5300 (¥950) and New Moon, best known for their Premium Grade Abalone (¥390 U.P. ¥595) and Bird’s Nest Drinks (¥540 U.P. ¥650).
The introduction of local merchants means shoppers can now receive deliveries in under a week, compared to overseas merchants where shipping might take longer.
This year, the Taobao 6.18 sale will have promotions held over three phases. It starts with Phase 1: Kick-off Sale (29 May to 3 June), followed by Phase 2: Daily Category Sale (4 June to 12 June), and Phase 3: Finale Sale (13 June to 20 June). While Phase 1 and 3 will have similar promotions, Phase 2 offers more cross-shop discounts and shop coupons — be sure to mark your calendars!

All items on Taobao are listed in Chinese Yuan (RMB), so do take note of the currency when shopping — only logged-in users can view discounted prices as well. Additionally, because it’s a Chinese website, all text is in Chinese, but it can easily be translated using Google Chrome — simply right-click on the page and select “Translate to English”.
