Star Wars collections are always out of this world, and adidas’ latest collaboration is one for fans to look out for. In celebration of the 40th anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back, the sportswear brand pays homage to protagonist Luke Skywalker in a brand new edition of Stan Smiths.
Luke Skywalker’s recognisable blue lightsaber is channeled through the blue and white colourway, a pale blue rubber sole alongside cobalt blue elements on the tongue, heel and at the top of the laces. With a white leather upper reminiscent of Cloud City, this is a clean pair of shoes that doesn’t necessarily scream Star Wars, but fans are sure to notice subtle references within the pair.
The back of the heel also displays the emblem of the Resistance, first introduced in the 2015 film Star Wars: The Force Awakens. This special edition of the classic 70’s Stan Smith maintains the same, clean design, with the usual perforated 3-Stripes.
On the tongue, the usual portrait of Stan Smith is replaced with a rendition of Skywalker, and the laces can be embellished with Star Wars lace locks. The outsole also subtly displays the iconic “Nooooo!!!” that Skywalker screams upon discovering one of the biggest revelations in cinematic history.
Fans can also look forward to stills from the film printed on the insoles, along with pins of R2-D2, Yoda, a lightsaber and the X-Wing Starfighter, all iconic motifs from the Star Wars franchise. All this comes in a special edition star-printed shoe box. Whether you’re a fan of Star Wars or not, the Force is strong with this pair of kicks.
The adidas Stan Smith Star Wars Shoes (USD120) will launch 10PM, July 23 on the adidas US website.
