The market for luxury skincare is booming. It’s not uncommon for single beauty products to go into the thousands of dollars (look at La Prairie and Clé de Peau Beauté), and the brands are backing their formulas with scientific experiments and results to justify the value and high costs. At the end of this month, another contender for skincare innovation comes in the form of this amber bottle from CHANEL. In its golden box, it looks and feels expensive, and at $924 (for 40ml), it is.
SUBLIMAGE L’Extrait de Nuit positions itself as a “night serum”, and claims to repair and regenerate the skin while it sleeps. The formula composes of two fermented floral elixirs that protect the skin and strengthens it; these are new active ingredients created by CHANEL Research, and are from two plants: orange blossom, which produces the neroli floral elixir that improves skin detoxification, and grown in southeastern France; and Vanilla Planifolia from Madagascar.
Vanilla Planifolia is signature to CHANEL’s SUBLIMAGE line, and in this new serum, it is present in three active fractions: Intense water, distilled from the pod and acting like a natural shield against free radicals; Stem cells that activate the skin’s regeneration processes; and Enfleurage oil, an oleic infusion of dried flowers, which help repair the skin barrier.
While the active ingredients sound magical, the miracle is in the morning-after, when skin feels and looks better than before — stronger, more refined, and very comfortable.
The serum pumps out of the bottle like a golden nectar, and while one drop appears very little, it can cover and spread across half the face easily. It has a subtle floral scent that is soothing to the senses, and adds to the calming experience of winding down at the end of a long day.
