CHANEL’s Holiday Makeup Collection Takes On The House’s Iconic Chains

Whether it’s the Classic Flap Bag, the 2.55 or the 19, CHANEL’s bags are as coveted as they come, with their instantly-recognisable quilts and chain straps. So what happens when a signature house code gets reinterpreted into a makeup collection, one that offers every bit of opulence and refined luxury? You’ll get CHANEL’s Holiday 2020 collection, conceptualised by CHANEL’s own Global Creative Makeup and Colour Designer, Lucia Pica.

Clearly, she’s out to stun. The gorgeous LES CHAÎNES D’OR DE CHANEL collection takes on CHANEL’s gold chains, immediately obvious just by looking at the embossed symbols on this series of limited edition powders — both an Illuminating Blush Powder and the OMBRE PREMIÈRE Powder eyeshadows feature the familiar motif atop their soft surface.

Then again, especially since it’s Pica in charge, things get less literal. The chic interlacing of metal and leather come to light in bold, graphic contrasts between black and gold, whether we’re talking lipsticks infused with platinum or coppery shimmers, subtle but eye-catching sparkles, or nail polish in an old-world, antique gold. On the face, we can admire the perfectly-created golden gleam, underscored with rosy shades and a sensual dark lip.

There are essentially four new limited edition products introduced in this range. First, an exclusive Illuminating Blush Powder made for the collection, one that first surprises with those chain motifs, before we start to notice the other things that make it so perfect; it combines gold radiance and rose, in a satin finish, as Pica describes how the powder “illuminates the skin, attracts light on prominent areas of the face and provides a natural, pure, and translucent rosy effect on the cheeks”.

Next up, the OMBRE PREMIÈRE Powder eyeshadows that take on bold golds in four different variations. Each of them are infused with gold that either contrasts or disappears into the formula, in either a sparkling, antique rose, white, or dark shade, all rich and silky for you to wear on their own, or layer over one another.

As always, CHANEL delivers on the lipsticks with the classic ROUGE ALLURE, here in timeless shades again infused with luminous golden sparkles. A nude and bright red will be an instant hit once they hit beauty counters, but we also love the darker tones of Or Cuivré, a brick red, or Pourpre d’Or, a deep plum, especially when these contrast so well with the radiant golds.

Finally, top it off with the LE VERNIS Chaîne d’Or in an antique gold, one that promises supreme shine and long-wearing colour. After all, you can’t quite nail the holiday look without a great set to match, right?
