Ever since Gucci Beauty launched their makeup line in May last year, we’ve been obsessed with every gilded, glorious item presented alongside their vintage-tinged campaigns. Call us magpies, but we’re sure most people can’t help but succumb to those Hollywood-chic gold lipstick tubes too. Might we expect their latest beauty counter to look just as chic? Of course. Launched at the BHG Bugis Beauty Hall, the counter features Gucci Beauty’s full range of makeup and fragrances, which you can now try out first-hand.
As with all Gucci Beauty counters, you’re looking at a luxurious space befitting of the brand, whether it’s a glamorous mirror bordered with light bulbs, or a grand shelf of Gucci’s signature Bloom fragrances.
The Gucci Beauty makeup line is worth checking out too, since this one’s championed by Alessandro Michele, the house’s Creative Director, who imbues a freedom and boldness to the collection. Makeup, here, isn’t a mask, but a way to exalt flaws via its transformative experience; he also links it to the expression of oneself. “Beauty has no boundaries, no rules, no colours,” he says, while taking cues from old Hollywood bombshell, Jean Harlow, to inspire the beauty collection.
If you’re fretting over what to eye, you can’t go wrong with these:
1. Gucci Beauty Lipsticks
Lipsticks were the very first item created for the new collection, and Michele draws from old-school Hollywood glamour for this range, particularly, the stars of the Golden Era. Gucci’s lipstick series comes in four different formulations — the Rouge à Lèvres Satin with a lightweight satin finish, Rouge à Lèvres Voile which comes in a luminous sheer wash, Rouge à Lèvres Mat for a rich velvety matte, and Baume à Lèvres, a lip balm with a glowy translucent finish.
Each of these delivers on its precise promises, with the matte lipstick standing out in our eyes, thanks to how it gives us a vivid but comfortable colour that looks truly soft and velvety. Of course, we can’t ignore those lipstick tubes as well. Gold reigns across the range, from Art Deco-style architecture etched onto the outer casing, nostalgic 1950s rose wallpaper, or a ribbed design that’s both vintage and contemporary.
2. Anything in Goldie Red 25*
Will red lipstick ever go out of style? Nope. And Gucci Beauty’s star red, Goldie Red 25* is a classic choice. Available in satin, sheer, and matte, the warm-toned shade, also known as The Gucci Red, comes inspired by Hollywood legend Goldie, with the star at the back of its name being a reference to the creative director’s lucky number.
3. Poudre De Beauté Mat Naturel
From this year’s Face and Eye Makeup drop comes the Poudre De Beauté Mat Naturel, a face powder that’s housed in a pale pink refillable compact, with a beautiful gold trim. The beauty powder recalls the glamorous beauty rituals of yesteryear, though the formula now gives an unbelievably lightweight and smooth texture that evens out the complexion, for a finish that’s naturally flawless. Available in 12 shades and suitable for all skin types, with a sponge applicator encased as well.
4. Mascara L’Obscur
While the face powder gets more attention, we think this Gucci Mascara L’Obscur is just as great an item on your vanity counter. It’s said to be buildable and in an intense black hue, with a uniquely shaped brush and formula that grips the lashes and separates them for added definition. What we liked about this is how it fanned out our lashes wonderfully, keeping them curled and held up for long hours without smudging.
5. Bloom Fragrances
It seems like all fragrance lovers have at least one of these Gucci Bloom scents proudly on display — and we get it. The original Gucci Bloom is universally-loved for its contemporary and feminine interweaving of natural tuberose, jasmine, and rangoon creeper, which creates a rich white floral scent when worn. The lacquered porcelain bottle in powdered pink stands out too in a sea of glass flacons. You can also check out the latest addition to the Gucci Bloom family, the honey yellow Gucci Bloom Profumo di Fiori that has a more radiant, fresh scent compared to the original.
