Review: Avène Anti-Blemish Concentrate — Does It Work?

Like many people, I’ve been breaking out during this time of mask wearing, and it’s annoying to say the least. And then a month ago, this arrived for the NYLON team to try: the new Avène Cleanance Comedomed Anti-Blemish Concentrate. It sounded good, and because I believe Avène to be a safe brand for all skin types (specifically for sensitive skin), I gave this a try.

The serum itself smells like a hospital — similar to a disinfectant, and it feels like a mix between a gel and that weird Cetaphil texture that’s polarising. I was skeptical about the results on the first few nights of using this, but it’s now been a month of applying this once a day at night (you can use this morning and night), and my skin has been clear for the last 3 weeks, with no signs of breaking out in the near future.

What’s interesting is that its key ingredients is a Milk Thistle Extract, which is typically known as an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory; but in this formula, it targets invisible microcomedones beneath the surface of the skin, stopping them from developing into visible acne.

For a small bottle of 30ml, this serum is not exactly cheap, but if you’ve been experiencing full face breakouts and really need to turn your skin around, this concentrate is good, and it’s the one thing I’m currently recommending to my friends when they ask me for anti-blemish solutions.

NOTE: The above review is my personal opinion and as all skin types and conditions are different, this product may perform differently for you. Also, who knows, you may love the smell.
