Zouk Cinema Club Opens For Experiential Movie Screenings — Here’s What You Can Expect

You’ve got weekends and annual leave days to fill, and yet, save from planting yourself at the Sentosa beaches every weekend, or visiting Gardens by the Bay for the umpteenth time, there are few novel experiences in Singapore that can cure our wanderlust afflictions. Enter then, the new Zouk Cinema Club.

Hot after a dining pop-up at Capital and a spin cycle studio, the nightlife venue has turned their dance floor into a cinema, and you’ll want to be kicking your heels off for this. Guests will be immersed in a unique screening experience, with bi-monthly themed nights that will feature both newly released films and cult classics. It opens to the public on 30 October, Friday — and since it’s Halloween this week, the cinema club will debut with screenings of The Sixth Sense and The Nightmare Before Christmas.

So what makes this a “Cinema Club” and not just a regular screening space? We’re told that Zouk will fully utilise their state-of-the-art lighting and quality sound system for some surround-sound goodness that should please audiophiles.

As you can see from these images, the space will also be dressed up according to theme. For the months of October / November, the main hall will feel very much like you’re in 1899 Moulin Rouge, thanks to lush velvet decor and a replica of the famous Red Mill, just in time for their ‘For The Love of Music’ features that include Moulin Rouge, Grease, The Greatest Showman and other musical films.

On top of that, you won’t be getting those pre-screening videos that inform patrons to stay quiet during the movie — in fact, Zouk welcomes guests to have fun and express themselves as loudly as you want (with social distancing in place, of course), so you can cheer, cry, and react along with the characters on screen. You may also opt to munch on Garrett Popcorn during the screening, or live it up with champagne and house pour spirits.

Zouk will be hosting one screening per night, four days a week, from 6pm to 10.30pm, Wednesday to Saturday and the Eve of Public Holidays, for patrons aged 18 and above. Instead of individual tickets, you’ll have to purchase table packages, which include alcohol, for either 1 – 2 people, or a group of 3 – 5 people.

Table packages start from $75++ for Wednesday night, that includes a jug of house pour spirits or Zouk’s signature Long Island Tea (1 – 2 pax), to $350++ for Thursdays to Saturday nights, including a bottle of Moët and a bottle of Belvedere (3 – 5 pax). TraceTogether is required for entry to Zouk Cinema Club, and a maximum of 50 patrons will be allowed on-site. Given the current closure of nightclubs due to Covid-19 regulations, we’d say this one’s quite the smart move to make.
