Tokyo Banana and Pokémon Team Up For Pikachu-Themed Treats

Have you ever gone to Japan and not picked up a box of Tokyo Bananas for your family and friends back home? The general answer for most Singaporeans would be… nope. After all, we’re talking about one of the country’s best-selling souvenirs — a sweet snack that now features six new Pikachu designs.

In their first-ever collaboration with Pokémon, the banana-shaped sponge cakes, filled with fragrant banana custard cream, comes adorned with Pikachu’s iconic features, including the electric-type’s pointy ears and flushed cheeks.

Each of the six “Pokémon Tokyo Banana” patterns feature Ash’s favourite pokémon in various expressions, winking, saying hello, or flashing that lightning tail, with corresponding names of “Cheery Pikachu“, “Wink Pikachu“, “Hello Pikachu“, “Prim Pikachu“, “Goodnight Pikachu“, and “Pikachu Tail“. There’s also the occasional chance that you might spot a heart-shaped tail, which fans of the game know to mean you’ve just caught a female Pikachu.

To further entice, each item is also individually wrapped with packaging that looks like the classic red-and-white Pokéball. These treats will be sold in packs of two for 291 yen (SGD3.73).

If you’d like to catch ’em all though, they’re currently only available in Japan, released on different dates and in limited quantities across selected 7-Eleven stores around Japan. The “Pokémon Tokyo Banana” will first be out on 21 November at the Tokyo metropolitan area, Kanagawa, Chiba, Saitama; this is then followed by other regions of Hokkaido, Fukushima, Nagano,  Osaka, Kyoto, Fukuoka, Kagoshima and more.
