CHANEL Cruise 20/21 will go down in the brand’s history as a truly unique collection; it was launched during a time of lockdown, and Creative Director, Virginie Viard had to immediately adapt the designs and materials to the changing global situation. Viard initially planned to show the collection in Capri, but this evolved to a studio setting that was inspired by a trip around the Mediterranean; holidaying along the Italian and French Riviera. With this backdrop in mind, the pieces were planned to be light and casual (well, at least as casual as CHANEL can get); and can be easily mixed and matched, and in timeless designs that can last through the seasons. Even the fabrics used were ones that the brand already had; but now conceived in a fresh concept, such as tweed that’s left unlined for more fluidity and lightness. The accessories, in particular, exude fun and youthfulness, with tiny pouches worn as necklaces, and bags designed to fit the ubiquitous CHANEL N°5 fragrance bottle.
