Every Gucci makeup item launched under Alessandro Michele has been a success; I personally love the mascara and think it’s one of the best in the market, and their powder compact is simply beautiful — its pastel pink form factor has a lovely retro charm to it. Today, the brand just announced their new primer and liquid foundation, and it’s available at the Gucci Beauty counter at BHG Bugis.

The primer is touted as a “silk priming serum”; the texture is gel-like, while the finish is silky smooth, minimising the appearance of pores and rough skin. Like all primers, this one aims to optimise foundation coverage, so foundation applies better, stays on longer, and doesn’t oxidise over the day. If I had to compare it to another makeup primer, it’s most similar to Marc Jacobs Beauty Coconut Primer; they both are white gel-like creams that dry down to a “silicone”-type smooth, semi-matte finish. A nicer way to put it: satin finish.

The first thing I like about the Fluid Foundation: it comes in 25 shades. Of course this doesn’t compare to Fenty Beauty’s 50 shades of skin, but it’s still very decent. It’s not like FIVE shades, which I initially thought based on this picture:

The product pumps out light and airy, and spreads generously across the skin — only a little product is needed to cover the entire face. It works well with the primer (obviously), and doesn’t pill or streak, and like all good liquid foundations, it is buildable. It kept its hold on my face for an entire day (disclaimer: working from home), with no shine even at night. There is some fragrance in this product and it’s similar to the Gucci powder, but it’s not as heavily scented as the primer that smells more like perfumed skincare.

I recommend finding your shade at the Gucci Beauty counter (it’s at BHG Bugis), especially if you’re going to spend $100 on this.
