Esplanade presents two weekends of live and online performances for Rocking The Region

Rocking the Region at Esplanade returns in a new format for 2021. It features some of Singapore’s newest alternative bands, as well as those from the region in the genres of indie folk, psyche rock, garage and bedroom pop.

The live performances will be held over two weekends at Esplanade and run for 30 minutes per set. There will also be new online performances that go live at 8pm on 22nd and 29th Jan. Here’s the schedule:

Quite Quiet

Darell Laser may present himself as quite quiet, but he has six EPs, a bunch of singles and a few music videos under his belt. He’s also one-third of cult emo-math trio Forests. His set at Esplanade will see 30-minutes of his good feeling, mood elevating tunes.

Woes

New onto the local music scene, this five-piece indie/math rock band from Singapore has impressive twinkly guitar lines alongside sorrowful melodies.

This quartet previously performed for Fred Perry Subculture, Music Matters Live 2019 and ASEAN Music Showcase Festival 2020. Their songs are weaved from the band’s adolescent experiences and the revelations that come with adulthood.

Saints Amongst Sinners

Saints Amongst Sinners is a seven-piece rock band that was one of the highlights from the previous Rocking the Region. Their fusion music has psychedelic and shoegaze influences, and the male vocals sound like Green Day. Check it out:

Adding on to this year’s new format, there will also be performances released online on Friday 22nd and 29th Jan at 8pm. These online sets will be available for viewing until 12 Feb, 12pm.

Folk9 (Thailand)
