Ever one for fashion staples, global apparel retailer UNIQLO is back again with a refreshed collection of Uniqlo U pieces for Spring/Summer 2021, which will launch in stores starting 22 January. We’ll always be in awe of how the label constantly gives us understated classics at their best, ideal to mix and match capsule wardrobe-style — and quite obviously, we’ve got a superb team to thank.
Artistic Director Christophe Lemaire and his UNIQLO R&D team in Paris are now in their 10th season of Uniqlo U, which features versatile, functional, and minimalist wear in mostly earthy neutrals, though with a couple of bright hues thrown in. Other than the men’s and women’s collections, the latest lineup also includes apparel for the kids, which will launch later in end February.
Both the men’s and women’s collections see clean silhouettes, though there seem to be more summery styles and lighter fabrics for the women’s series, with apparel made from viscose and cotton-poly blends. A semi-sheer shirt, for instance, borrows from menswear stripes in the campaign look, while dark denim is available in a pair of straight cut jeans. What we can get on board are also the soft colours of mint, cream, and shades of terracotta, seen on a shiny rayon tunic, dresses, or coordinated looks.
For the men, the workwear inspiration comes through via work pants, trucker jackets, and regular-fit jeans, though in earthy tones for a fashion-forward twist. The classic Uniqlo U t-shirt now comes in stripes and a new boat neck style, while other utilitarian fabrics include cotton poplin, twill, and 3D knits with a fresh linen-cotton blend, meant to age well so you won’t have to keep restocking the pieces. As for the kids’ styles, the dresses, t-shirts, and shorts are basically scaled-down versions of the adult wear staples, so they get to enjoy breezy elegance and thoughtful fabrics as well.
