Review: Dior Capture Totale Super Potent Rich Creme — priced at $145, it’s worth every cent

In early 2019, I was strangely breaking out for some reason (I think it’s age), and Dior’s Capture Totale line of skincare saved my skin. I introduced the products into my skincare regime one by one — to single them out in case I had a bad reaction to any — and over the weeks (not months!), my skin improved. The texture became smoother, and most importantly, it cleared up. Needless to say I was impressed and became a Capture Totale convert; so this month when they introduced a new moisturiser to their range, I couldn’t wait to try it.

This is the Super Potent Rich Crème. I can imagine the name being polarising; the words “rich” and potent” aren’t always what customers are looking for, especially when one has sensitive skin. But the older I get, the drier and more dehydrated my skin feels (especially at night), and so this cream is exactly what I’d gravitate to at the store.

It’s a pale pink cream that feels rich — but not thick — to the touch. It’s rich, but at the same time it feels light; an incredible texture that is silky smooth on the skin.

When blended in, it has a dewy finish, and after a minute, it dries down to a semi-matte feel. And because it’s semi-matte, it is pillow-proof as well. Skin doesn’t feel sticky, and it doesn’t stick to the pillow, making it a great moisturiser to use at night before you sleep.

The formula is made of 88% natural-origin ingredients, with the three key active ingredients being: glycerine, wax and plant butters that hydrate and comfort; peony blossom oil extract that soothes and repairs; and bio cellular technology that reactivates and regenerates skin — sort of like reversing the ageing process.

What immediately strikes me about this cream is that it’s priced at $145 for a jar (50ml). Considering the ingredients, technology and superior texture of the product, this feels like a far more expensive moisturiser — I think it’s comparable to something similar priced in the mid to high hundreds. Also, the product is very delicately scented, which is a lovely surprise. It has a faint floral scent that is mood boosting, and isn’t overwhelming like the strong smell of most rich creams.

It’s only been a few weeks since I started using this cream, and so far so good — my skin looks and feels good. I match it with Dior’s Dream Skin Care & Perfect that I’ve been using since it launched. It’s a light cream that I apply as the last step of my skincare to “lock it in”.

If you’re concerned about anti-ageing (who isn’t), and considering switching up your moisturiser (because new year), I think you’ll love Dior’s new Super Potent Rich Crème. It’s unfortunate that we can’t do counter swatches yet, but you could try asking the beauty advisor for a sample; they might just have one.

Dior Capture Totale Super Potent Rich Crème is priced at $145 (50ml), available at all Dior Beauty boutiques and counters.
