If you’ve ever wanted to own a Byredo perfume, but thought twice (or thrice) about the $300 price tag, we’ve got good news for you. IKEA has collaborated with Ben Gorham, founder of luxury perfume house Byredo, for a most exquisite collection of 13 scented candles meant for the home — these happen to be affordably priced too, starting from just $9.90. The OSYNLIG collection will soon be made available at local IKEA stores from 21 January.
It might seem like an unlikely pairing, but by now, we’re used to out-of-the-box IKEA collaborations. Virgil Abloh’s Off-White, anybody? Then again, both IKEA and Byredo happen to be Swedish brands that desire to evoke meaning with their minimalist designs; here, the limited edition OSYNLIG collection is no exception.
For this collaboration, OSYNLIG actually stands for “invisible” in Swedish, as each scent is meant to inspire emotions that may be hard to put into words, whether we’re talking about feelings of nostalgia, happiness, safety, comfort, or dreams.
There’s also the aesthetic concept of Invisible Design being explored here, with the idea that “it’s not just what your home looks like that affects how it makes you feel”. The power of smell is conveyed throughout the collection for, ultimately, a comfortable home, which both brands are clearly aligned on.
“The way your home smells is very emotional and plays a huge part in how you feel being there. It isn’t just about things being functional and practical, it’s the place where you come together with family and friends and make memories,” says Ben Gorham.
The scented candles here are curated blends crafted with quality raw ingredients, while the collection is divided into 3 categories of fresh, floral, and woody scents.

Once we got over the sheer delight of Byredo-curated candles though, what we appreciate just as much are the vessels themselves. Each candle is housed in a hand-formed ceramic jar that’s glazed with a blend of two colours, chosen by Gorham, which represent the ingredients within. A triangle-shaped marking forms a minimalist representation of the top, middle, and base notes that we often use to understand scent. With exteriors that are just as exquisite as the scents within, IKEA has made staying at home an even more tempting proposition.
