Timberland’s Latest Shoes Feature Sustainable GreenStride™ Soles Made From Sugar Cane

Ever one to work for a better, greener future, Timberland‘s latest 2021 collection debuts even more sustainable possibilities — this time, their shoes feature GreenStride™ comfort soles, made with 75% renewable natural materials such as sugar cane and responsible natural rubber.

The shoe and lifestyle brand has already been making great strides with previous sustainable drops, so it’s no surprise they’re introducing more eco-friendly kicks into their brand staples. Their use of sugar cane and responsible natural rubber help bring footwear closer to net positivity, the concept where you’re putting more back into the environment than you take, while still delivering on comfort, protection, and performance.

Here are the two key styles:

Solar Wave Oxford Low

In both men’s and women’s styles, the upper is made entirely of ReBOTL™ fabric, where non-biodegradable plastic waste is collected, shredded, then turned into yarns and woven into fabric. Then, there’s also ReBOTL™ linings, a Defender Repellent Systems® protective treatment, as well as toe bumpers and heels made of climbing rubber, topped off with those GreenStride™ comfort soles.

Men’s Solar Wave Hiker

This one’s a mid-top design that consists of an upper that’s part Better Leather, sourced from tanneries rated silver for their environmental practices, and part ReBOTL™ fabric made of at least 50% recycled plastic. This is then finished off with those GreenStride™ comfort soles.

There will be more Timberland® footwear styles with GreenStride™ comfort soles available throughout the year, including an Earth Day pack made with Regenerative Leather. The particular material is sourced from ranches that allow grazing pastures “to rest and absorb carbon, retain water and restore biodiversity”, which lessens negative environmental impact.

Other than the key shoes, the collection also sees functional outerwear with eye-catching pops of colour. An Ecoriginal Waterproof Jacket features a ReBOTL™ ripstop fabric shell and 70% recycled plastic in the TimberDry™ waterproof lining, as well as details such as an adjustable hood and 3M reflective detailing. Elsewhere, vests, graphic t-shirts, anoraks, and joggers feature the same colour block design that seem very much inspired by the 90s.
