It’s the end of April and that should hopefully mean payday is coming up. Here are some new sneakers to drop your hard-earned salary on.
ASICS x COCA-COLA GEL-QUANTUM 90 TYO
For the love of Coca-Cola, here are a pair of ASICS shoes. There are two colourways — both in a bold red with white, and a complementary green heel inspired by the Georgia green of the Coca-Cola contour bottle, and made of ASICS’ famous GEL technology. The uppers are made using around four PET plastic bottles, and the sockliner base material is made of recycled polyurethane. Furthermore, it’s coloured using a dope-dye technique that requires less ink and water.
The GEL-QUANTUM 90™ TYO is available in two colourways – COKE RED/WHITE and WHITE/COKE RED. Priced at $179, available from ASICS.COM, ASICS Plaza Singapura store, Limited Edt (Vault 313@Somerset, Queensway, Peninsula, LIMITEDEDT.COM) and The Sole Brother.
VANS X DIME SKATE MID SKOOL
Vans and Dime team up again to reimagine the Vans Skate Mid Skool. The silhouette for this hi-top sneaker borrows from Vans’ archives, and is a 90s skate-inspired style with all the nostalgic feels. It features a mix of elevated suede and nylon, a translucent outsole and heel moustache, custom co-branded tongue label, and a debossed leather hangtag. There are three distinct colourways: off-white, navy/white and black/atlantic green, each with Dime’s signature yellow as accents on the heel scab, sockliner, and custom shoebox.
The Vans x Dime Skate Mid Skool is available at DIMEMTL.COM, and at Vans Skateboarding retailers.
LACOSTE AG-LT21 ULTRA X DANIIL MADVEDEV
International tennis star, Daniil Medvedev stepped into his first round at the 2021 Miami Open wearing the AG-LT21 Ultra; this new design brings the famous crocodile back onto the courts, and inspired by Daniil’s love for video games, is a high-performance shoe with a futuristic look — a combination of tennis and gaming. Innovative technology built into the shoe promotes speed, stability and agility on the court; while a woven mesh upper provides the best breathability for players. It’s also extremely lightweight, has a double lacing system, and a padded collar for the right amount of support and comfort. As for the outsole, it’s fitted with Goodyear rubber, which we all know is very grippy.
LACOSTE AG-LT21 ULTRA, $299, available in LACOSTE boutiques, selected retailers and on lacoste.com.
NEW BALANCE VISION RACER REWORKED
New Balance designed this shoe in collaboration with Jaden Smith, activist and artist, and they had sustainability in mind. It’s partially crafted with recycled and surplus materials; for example, the midsole contains 5% EVA regrind (alleviating a potential waste stream), while the upper and tongue contains 74% Spinnex fiber (Spinnex includes at least 30% textile waste), 16% polyester and 10% Spandex.
The Vision Racer ReWorked is priced at $209 and available at New Balance Paragon, Bugis Junction, Foot Locker Singapore and NEWBALANCE.COM.SG.
VERSACE GRECA SNEAKER
Versace’s new signature sneaker was introduced in their Spring-Summer 2021 collection, and is inspired by the brand’s iconic geometric Greca pattern. There are both high and low top versions, both with clean, understated silhouettes. The elevated outer sole is where it gets interesting; it features a continuous debossed Greca, and there’s a hidden Medusa detail and tonal logo on the sole.
Versace Greca Sneakers, $760 to $1,060, available from VERSACE.COM and at versace boutiques at paragon and MBS.
