Although the pandemic has grounded most of our travel plans overseas, it seems like there is always something new to discover right here in Singapore.
To give you an alternative to the typical historical tours, OH! Open House presents New World’s End, an all-new immersive art experience that takes you back to the 1960s. This marks OH! Open House’s first-ever experience as part of OH! Stories, which aims to highlight the history of Singaporeans and the stories of our neighbourhoods in a more permanent format.
Directed and written by Kaylene Tan, with theatrical guidance from veteran actress Janice Koh, New World’s End is a 1.5-hour audio-led immersive experience that follows the story of a pair of young lovers, Kiran and Rosa (voiced by local artistes Salif Hardie and Moira Loh) who takes you on a journey full of backstories, secrets, and momentous events such as the disastrous collapse of Hotel New World, which changed their lives forever.
Armed with an audio device, you’ll embark on a site-specific audio walk that will guide you through the streets and back alleys of Jalan Besar, before leading you into two colonial, pre-war shophouses. Here, you’ll come face-to-face with 9 immersive sets that include a dystopian New World Amusement Park and its vaunted gates or a cabaret backstage in ruins, all designed by Alan Oei to illustrate key moments from the audio drama.
Apart from the audio dramatisation, you will also be treated to an original soundtrack created by music duo NADA and Films from Brian Gothong Tan, inspired by cinematic classics of the sixties.
