CHANEL goes punk rock for its Cruise 21/22 collection 🤘

The CHANEL Cruise 2021/22 collection was inspired by Jean Cocteau’s film, Testament of Orpheus, with the show set against the backdrop of the former quarry, Carrières de Lumières in Les Baux-de-Provence. Virginie Viard, Creative Director of CHANEL says, “the simplicity, the precision and the poetry of Cocteau’s film made me want to create a very clean collection, with a very distinct two-tone, made up of bright white and deep black”. The result reflects a punk rock aesthetic, with lots of fringes, leather, beads, sequins, and most notably, t-shirts bearing the face of the model Lola Nicon like a rock star.

The teaser to the collection was captured by Inez & Vinoodh in Gabrielle Chanel’s recently restored apartment at 31 rue Cambon, where Chanel received her close friends, including Jean Cocteau. It shows the model Lola Nicon moving throughout the apartment, surrounded by the designer’s favourite bestiary (eg. her lions, female sphinxes, and deer), and the symbols the brand is now synonymous with.

Here are the close-ups from the collection that will drop in boutiques end of the year.

Beauty looks feature graphic eyes with bold black liner, severe side parts, and wispy fringes.

There are updates to the classic flap bag silhouette with added charms and chains, and a new punk tasselled hobo bag.

Accessories are piled on with chokers, pendant necklaces, and arm cuffs featuring stars.

Low-heeled ankle boots and pointed toe wedges are paired with fishnet stockings to complete the rock aesthetic.

The CHANEL Cruise 21/22 collection will be in chanel boutiques around November 2021.
