If you haven’t already seen all the hype on social media, Louis Vuitton presented a Men’s Fall/Winter 2021 collection spin-off show on 7 July, with k-pop icons and House Ambassadors, BTS, donning some of the best looks in the house. Appearing in the film ‘Hope’, directed by Korean director Jeon Go-woon, this marks their first official appearance for the fashion brand, as they served visual after visual at Art Bunker B39, an art and culture space just outside of Seoul. Smooth like butter? You don’t say.
While it was easy to just focus on the stunning close-ups of the 7-member group — comprising Jimin, RM, Suga, J-Hope, V, Jungkook, and Jin — we couldn’t help but be mesmerised by the looks dreamt up by men’s artistic director Virgil Abloh as well, where he brandished his signature quirky, ironic take on LV’s monogram and classic bags.
This spin-off show included 34 new looks, beyond those we had already seen at the earlier Fall/Winter 2021 showcase back in January. These play on the concept of illusion, “replicating the familiar through the deceptive lenses of trompe l’oeil and filtrage”, which often elevates normal-looking objects into high fashion-worthy statements — ah, that explains the coffee cup bag and eraser necklace, doesn’t it? Ahead, a look at the key accessories donned by the boys, in order of their appearance.
