H&M x Sabyasachi Shows Off The Indian Designer Label’s Vibrant Prints And Resort-Style Wear

Here with a stunning collection full of eclectic textiles and breezy silhouettes is H&M’s latest collaboration, this time with Indian designer label Sabyasachi.

A design house known for modern fashion that’s still very much inspired by its culture and roots, the collection, titled “Wanderlust”,  gives us both womenswear and menswear styles, along with a generous range of accessories that includes everything from jewellery to leather clutches and sandals.

It was originally planned to have launched months ago, then put on hold due to Covid-19, though finally available to shop from 12 August on hm.com.

With relaxed styles that are tempting for a resort vacation, or glamming up everyday life if that still feels too far off for you, designer Sabyasachi also said that he was happy to be given “the opportunity to spread the Sabyasachi aesthetic to a wider audience”, in India and across the world. “I’m eagerly looking forward to bringing [forth] this ‘ready-to-wear’ collection that will bring relaxed sophistication to everyday life in an understated yet glamorous style.”

“At a time like this, we believe people value the use of homegrown crafts and textiles more than ever and that’s something no one can do better than Sabyasachi,” continues Maria Gemzell, Head of New Development at H&M.

A key highlight of the collection would be the use of Indian textile and print traditions, given new life by the Sabyasachi Art Foundation, where we see meticulous hand-printed florals and embroidery on scarves, bags, and flowy kaftans, tops, and trousers. Browse through the lookbook images below for a feel of the summery prints on sheer fabric.

What we do admire here though are the ways these prints have been made to feel modern — a sharp off-shoulder jumpsuit-like co-ord, for instance, by way of styling them with clean, fitted separates, or even via a mixed fabric piece done on a bomber jacket silhouette. It gets even more refreshing with the more tailored men’s styles, a cotton biker jacket perhaps, or a blue-and-white vest-like jacket with ample pockets, done in a full coordinated look.

Then come the accessories, which include necklaces, bracelets, and signet rings, meant to be layered. For the bags, the two key items here are a studded clutch in leather that replicates the brass coins found in the other accessories, and a colourful horizontal print tote bag. And for extra quirkiness, look to a pair of sunglasses in copper and acetate, or a printed visor that comes with its own mulberry silk scarf attached.

The Sabyasachi x H&M collection, $16.95 for a ring to $159 for a jacket, available online at hm.com from 12 August.
