Artist Jeff Koons’ Famous Balloon Dog Will Feature In An Upcoming UNIQLO UT Collection

Those familiar with American artist Jeff Koons and his iconic modern art installations will be elated at this piece of news — UNIQLO has just announced a UT collection, done in collaboration with the contemporary artist. Famous for his whimsical sculptures, especially his balloon animal series done in stainless steel with mirrored finishes, Koons’ four other artworks of the Rabbit, Seated Ballerina, Play-Doh, and Gazing Ball will also be featured across t-shirts and hoodies. The items will be available in Singapore from Monday, October 4.

Balloon Dog (Orange), 1994 – 2000.
Rabbit, 1986.

“I enjoy very much how UNIQLO is in contact with my generation but also a younger generation. Everybody enjoys, very much, their clothing and I love that sense of unity,” says the artist. “I hope that this collaboration will help people around the world to connect with each other and that art will enrich their daily lives.”

Some of the motifs used in the UT collection.

The five artworks selected “celebrate the themes of self-acceptance, empowerment, and transcendence”, according to the brand.

It’s also worth noting that the Japanese retailer has also previously featured the works of Keith Haring, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Andy Warhol, on their UT lines, so this collaboration makes complete sense, given Koons’ commercial appeal. The bringing of art, done in the everyday style of a t-shirt, also brings immense cultural value to humble casual wear, which might be a novel idea that we ought to celebrate as well.
