Singapore Food Festival 2021 Returns with Over 50 Gastronomic Experiences Including Live Masterclasses

Back for its 28th edition, the Singapore Food Festival (SFF) has been the highlight of every foodie’s calendar. This year, the festival has gone hybrid for the first time, offering more than 50 gastronomic and drinking experiences both online and offline.

Happening over three weekends from 27 August to 12 September 2021, you can expect a virtual experience with recipe videos, short docu-features, and a line-up of live masterclasses, both free-to-view and paid, with some of the most well-known chefs in Singapore’s culinary scene, as well as an offline experience where you work up an appetite through curated walking tours in some of Singapore’s well-known districts.

Here’s a closer look at some of the live masterclasses and curated tours available.

LIVE MASTERCLASSES

1. Two Men and a Bottle

Well-known Chef Eric Neo will show you how to create a Cognac-stewed Ayam Buah Keluak with a dash of Cordon Bleu, alongside mixologist Peter Chua from Nemesis who will teach you how to craft your own complementary refreshing cocktail made using Noblige Cognac.

2. Blocks of Gold: The Durian Pound Cake

Join Chef Joe Leong from V-ZUG as you learn how to make your own Durian Pound Cake with Coconut Ganache, featuring 100% Mao Shan Wang durian folded into a gentle batter that is baked and topped with coconut ganache. 

The accompanying pastry kit is available for purchase at $24.

3. Hakka Hands

Learn how to make traditional Hakka yong tau fu by hand with Chef Douglas Ng from Fishball Story, who will teach you how to dress your savoury bites with a combination of heady sauces including his signature chilli sauce too. His masterclass will also include a mini-tutorial on the essentials of his favourite style of hot pot with handmade treats and a rich laksa broth from CHU Collagen.

4. From Skin to Bones

Pick up efficient techniques that will help you be more sustainable with your own cooking from Chef Drew Nocente of Salted and Hung, as you learn how to maximise ingredients and flavour with your very own Barramundi Fish Soup.

5. Buah Keluak Babka Baking Bash

Chef Maxine Ngooi of Tigerlily Patisserie brings you a masterclass on creating your own Peranakan-themed babka loaf stuffed with a buah keluak rempah.

The accompanying hot food kit is available for purchase at $12.

CURATED TOURS

1. HawkerWalk Singapore Food Festival Edition

Pick up marketing and navigation tips around the 700+ stores in Chinatown Complex! A world of experiences awaits you from discovering the wet and dry goods stall and the special relationship shared with the hawkers to seeing how handmade traditional snacks like sachem and ears biscuit are made — it is an experiential journey packed full of stories from our hawker heroes that are waiting for you to explore.

2. Secret Suppers

Go on a gastronomical adventure around Singapore from Little India, to Chinatown and Kampong Gelam featuring an eclectic range of restaurants that have been handpicked by the Singapore Food Festival 2021. Each restaurant will be serving up a specially curated secret menu so you won’t know what you will be having until you arrive!

Fee: $70 per pax

Date: 10, 11, 17, 18, 24 and 25 September

3. Heritage Tour of Tiong Bahru

Seen through the lens of a local foodie, get ready to explore the charming, old neighbourhood of Tiong Bahru through its art, architecture, and old-school delicacies. You might want to skip a meal for this tour as you will be treated to a line-up of local food and drink tastings!

Fee: $75 per pax

4. Singapore Southern Islands Hopping with Keong Saik Bakery

Want to take a quick island getaway? Go on a ferry ride to St John’s, Lazarus, Kusu, and Sisters’ Islands and enjoy picturesque sceneries complete with a picnic serving up scrumptious local delicacies from Keong Saik Bakery.

Fee: $80 per pax

Date: 4, 5, 11, and 12 September

Duration: 8 to 9 hours
