All the CHANEL Fall-Winter 2021 Shoes — including a high boot that can transform into an ankle style

CHANEL isn’t your typical luxury brand — take the location of their Fall/Winter 2021 show perhaps. Held in March earlier this year, it saw them veer away from the grand scale of Grand Palais, and instead, opting for an intimate staging at an underground night club in Paris, Chez Castel, itself an icon among celebrities such as Mick Jagger. It’s within this dimly-lit venue that we rediscover the rock ‘n’ roll romanticism of CHANEL’s irreverent tweeds and spotlight-stealing shoes.

Inspired by the joy of winter sports, CHANEL artistic director Virginie Viard infuses her playful Ready-to-Wear collection with ski-chic vibes, most notable on a pair of high boots that feature a plush quilted design; it’s one that evokes both extreme cosiness and the technical appeal of ski jackets.

In contrasting black-and-white or white-and-black, our favourite part has to be its practicality — when zipped all the way down, the heeled boot actually unveils an ankle-style design with the same contrast toe cap, a fine detail that transforms the elevated high-cut style into something more wearable across the seasons.

Alongside the elegant tweed sets and two-tone shearling jackets of the Fall/Winter runway were also casual footwear styles that seem to be more suited for our tropical climate. You may be wondering how sneakers and open-toe sandals made their way into such a wintery collection — CHANEL does this with an air of low-key cool, by pairing them with low-slung pants and quilted dungarees that take after street fashion silhouettes.

Here, grosgrain sandals in pink and purple arrive with a fabric and metal interlacing detail that reminds us of CHANEL’s most classic bags, while a lace-up sneaker bears just enough colour contrast to convince us of CHANEL’s bold, yet light-hearted, spirit — one that’s clearly present throughout the collection.

With that, we too felt inspired to create a vision board that aligns with their playfulness, hence a full-fledged photoshoot, within the whimsical pastel-pink walls and larger-than-life sprinkle pool of the Museum of Ice Cream. Your wardrobe inspiration, ahead.
